Disconnect the speakers and try it with another speaker or speakers not in the truck. If it works, the speakers or the wires to them are messed up. If it doesn't you probably damaged the output capacitor in the radio by turning it on without speakers attached. Realize that the speakers are part of the radio circuit and act as resistance. Without them, there is no resistance and it puts a strain on the radio.
take the blue/white wire coming from the radio and tie that in with your solid blue wire coming from the radio and which is connected to whichever wire in the car. So in total you'll have 3 wires at a connector.

Jennifer, I have the same issue. the problem is that the 2007+ generations of Kenwood receivers are not compatible with the iPhone. You will need to get a 2009+ series in order to use your iPhone with the head unit. I had the same issue with the Kenwood KDC-MP435U in my mustang. I am going to get a newer head unit that supports the iPhone. You cannot do it with the MP435U.
If you press the src button it should change to tuner and if it doesn't you could try resetting the unit, there are two ways to do this firstly you could just unplug the power lead or you could locate the reset button on the front of the radio and using a pencil press it briefly and then try your set again.
