I have a Gateway 504 GR and my brother got a few viruses on it. I tried to delete them in Safemode but failed. I then got our Windows Disk and reinstalled the OS. In doing so we lost all of our Drivers. When i power up there is no option to Press F11 and restore to factory settings. Also when i system restore back to a earlier time i can't because i reinstalled the OS. What should i do? I have no internet on it because the Net card driver was lost as well. I also downloaded all the drivers from Gateway site but am not sure how to install them. When i click them it just UnZips the file.... When i try to Repair the 1394 conection it say Failed to query TCP/IP settings. HELP! what should i do :]

I assume you have copied the downloaded files to the Gateway computer.
When you click on the various downloaded files it unzips and creates a folder for each unzipped file and then the expanded the files are placed into this folder.
To install the various drivers, open each folder (one at a time) and run the SETUP file or INSTALL file that is in this folder.

Double check connectors to the monitor at the back of the computer (if there is more than 1 check the correct one is being used) and also the back of the monitor. Try using a spare cable if you have one to eliminate that problem too.

It does seem like a mechanical fault rather than a software fault as you should get something even if it is only the bios start up screen!

can you access safemode?.. Try to chkdsk your hard drive under safemode. To access safemode press F8 during bootup, then goto start>run>type cmd. Then type chkdsk /r. wait until it finish then restart your laptop into normal mode.
If the problem still exist, try to repair your windows by the use of recovery disk in windows 7 or Vista, while in XP just run the CD installer of XP and chose repair.
But if you can no longer repair the operating system better to detach first your hard disk then make a backup first and re-configure your windows. Hope it helps thanks.

You need to access the BIOS - press F1 or F2 (depending on the version)during the start of the desktop - and in there you must modify the boot order: put the cd first then the had disk second. Save the change, reboot, insert the Vista disk and reboot once more - the disk will be loaded.

If you didn't create recovery disks when you got the computer, you will need to contact Gateway for them.
I would question the supposition that you have a virus. If you do, you can usually at least get into safe mode. I would suspect a hardware problem in your case.

My gateway will not load , only partial startup and then blank screen

It may be a hard drive problem or virus, try running the system operating disk that should have came with the computer or just buy a system disk and reformat the drive and put windows back on to it hope that helps.

Can't boot.

Simpliest solution is to do a system restore. Reload Windows.

Some people think this is lazy tech work so ill give you a few other options.

1.run a check disk from a boot disk
2.reload the windows files and hope the problem is just a missing file

there are probably a few other things you can try, I just cant think of what they are right now.

Locks up at destuctive restore

you need to enable the USB controllers in the bios, (this F1 or F2 on boot up), before you can complete the restore, there are no viruses there because you are not booted into windows so a virus won't affect it

good luck and keep us informed with your progress

its a little problem without the windows disk but try this steps.

Turn on the computer-while booting press the F8 key until you have an option to choose safemode.
then choose safemode, once on the safemode, if you have install somoething on your computer, try to uninstall it, if not then on the safemode try to back up your files.Scan for viruses and spyware.

If this may not work then I suggest you get a windows setup disk.
