Is the Master/Slave jumper set correctly on the back of the drive?

If the drive is on a cable with another drive of any type, one must be master and the other slave.

Also, double check that the ribbon cable is plugged in correctly.

JLMS DVD-ROM XJ-HD166 DVD/CD ROM Drive does not acknowledge disc in drive after having the computer set back to factory

Does it not acknowledge dvd disc only or cd or dvd both. If it doesn't read the dvd disc, or able to play dvd disc, but able to exlpore regular cd's, then you have a codec error, and you need to download a dvd codec like powerdvd for it for your system to play dvd disc. Check to see if your dvd-rom drive appears in the "my computer" window, if it is there, but wouldn't be able to play anything, then it could be a driver issue. so make sure in the hardware , the drivers is installed and working properly. If it is working properly and driver is installed, then you got a bad drive, the optical laser lenses isnt reading or the spindle ain't working anymore if you don't hear disc being loaded when inserting the disc.

Dvd writter is not working

hey john,

do you have a burning software installed? you can download nero express @ majorgeeks.com

you mention that your friend gave it to you? was it working fine before? its easy to set up your new dvd writer whenever you have already installed a burning software like nero. well, you can also try clone dvd. it works very well too.

and also check for firmware upgrades for your dvd writer...you can find it here...

Dvd rom won't work

You forgot to check the jumper settings of the Hard Disk and the DVD Drive found at the back near the IDE and power cables. If you are using one IDE cable, then one jumper should be a Master, that's the Harddisk, and the DVD drive a Slave. If you are using two IDE cable then both must be Master.

You should check also the Harddisk jumper help settings printed on them, some harddisk needs the jumper settings for Slave presence on the same IDE cable.

If it doesn't work then It's either the cable or the DVD drive has a problem.
