This was one of several Sony models that had bad picture tubes--the set uses a red, green, and blue tube.

There is something easy you can try that may help you get some more life from the set.

SONY SCREEN ADJUSTMENT:

Here is what you need to do.

1.) You need to remove the entire plastic piece below the front of the screen. You most likely will find 3 screws on either side in back that you have to remove.

2.) The grill will not come out easy, pull from one side and then when it starts to come loose from the other side(there are several plastic pegs that hold it in.) Then from the bottom pull out( most of these sets have square plastic tabs at the top that tuck in.)

3.) With the grill removed locate the inspection plate behind it (it usually has 6 screws.) You will have to tilt the grill to the left and on its side as several cables are connected to it--they are held in place with trash bag like ties that you can release to get some room.

4.) With the inspection plate removed you will see a fairly small (about 3 inch square) BLACK PLASTIC BLOCK WITH SIX CONTROLS-usually they are marked with whiteout so someone can tell if they have been adjusted.

5.) You need to look very close at the block with a flashlight----usually the top three controls are FOCUS--don't touch those.
The lower three are usually marked Screen and if you look very close you will see b, g, r(blue green red)

6.)Usually the GREEN will be in the middle.

7.) Once you locate the BLUE screen control have the set on and turn it down--if the set is shutting down you may have only a few seconds to try to turn it down---usually to the left with the Screen control.

8.) Best way to do this if the set is on is on a video input SONY PROJECTION TV TROUBLE SHOOTING BLUE SCREEN - clip_image001.gif with nothing connected--you turn the Blue screen down until the set stays on and then very slowly turn it up until you see a slightly Blue screen with or without diagonal trace lines----turn it down slowly until the Blue screen and trace lines just disappear.

Let me know if you get it to work--Like I said if it is shutting down you may have to slowly turn the screen down a few times to get it to stay on.

If it works you may only be buying some time--if the blue tube caused this it may return at some point.

If all this information has helped you rate this solution as I do this here for free.

I have a sony rear projection Tv 43 inch about 13 years old the red light in front blinks continuously when the on button is pushed and nothing else happens\r\ndue to it's age will I be able to get it...

It has been quite sometime, that I have repaired this TV. In one case the audio IC with standby is bad. The symptom you describe, is my first area of trouble shooting. You may resist the temptation to replace this TV. I understand. It would be better to replace this TV. Sony is a unique TV, and parts for this may be substituted with non originals. Even if this set is repaired, it will be a matter of short time that it will go down. I would certainly shop for a new Sony flat screen TV. Your chances of having a long running TV is in your best interest. Thanks for asking and show all hands of support!

I've connected my new Sony Blue-Ray Disk Player to my RCA F25645 TV via the three (Red, White, Yellow) composite cables but the screen only says "unusable signal" and will not display the Blue...

The output from the blu-ray is probably component video, where the brightness, blue and red difference signals are the three outputs. Sounds like the TV only has composite video input so won't work. Check the manuals, if you can get a composite signal from the blu-ray then your TV will display it but not high definition. A HD LCD or plasma TV is needed to show the blu-ray films in high definition.

Turn on tv have sound and picture then screen turns blue no picture but have sound

Blue screens are a strong hint that your tv isn't picking up an image. Check to see if you have a firm connection on both your tv and your input device (cable box/ dvd player). You may want to disconnect and reconnect fully. Also attempt selecting other inputs. If you only have trouble with that one input, then you have a loose internal connection. Also make sure that your TV can display an image by trying to use the on screen controls.

Sony KDF50 rear projection TV with a Blue tinge (haze) on screen

You have a problem within the light engine. This a hugely expensive. If the set is not too old you could contact Sony and see if they will help you out. Otherwise it is not eceonomical to repair
