Re: no maps found
Look on the SD card in your PC and see if you can see a folder with the COUNTRY NAME of the map. If there is NO map then it is possible at some time in the past someone ( you maybe ) has done a 'drag and drop' on the SD card and accidently dropped the map into another folder. The other possible fault it that the map has been deleted off the SD card or the map folder / file has become currupted.

How is the folder the maps are in formatted name wise? IF the spelling is off it may cause an issue. Are you sure that there are map files in the folder? Can you post what the contents of the map folder is. When connected to your computer you should be able to browse the tomtom file system. You should have a folder with a name like US_and_Canada. That folder should have files with .dat and .pna extensions
You have to first load maps on the gps before you can use it. You go to tom tom website, then you update your tom tom with maps, then register your device. After doing that, I assure you will be able to use the gps.
There are no maps with the TomTom Home. After you install it, connect your device to the computer and perform an update (if your 30 day guarantee free updtae is still valid). The maps come in the device.
I suddenly lost the GPS signal today and could not get it back. All I got was the "No valid GPS signal". My solution was to tap on the GPS satellite bars when in the route map. this brought up the "Status summary page of the TOMTOM.
I then again tapped the satellite bar which brought up the "GPS Status" page. I then tapped the bar labeled "configure".
The radio button next to the option titled "Minutes (dm.m') was selected. I then moved the selection to "Degrees (d.d) and it started working.
I had just downloaded the GPS fix 5 days ago so it is not like this suddenly caused it to stop working.
This may not work for everyone but this is what it took to get mine working.
