Brother 420CN printer will not print black ink. Have replaced the cartridge and after several cleaning cycles, it still will not print properly. Test Print shows colors are fine but black ink is hit and miss on the grid.

I have a brother MFC 3240C. My Black ink stopped printing(initially printed horizontal faded lines and gradually got worse), the other colors were printing fine. I tried cleaning numerous time( 50 -100 times over 1-2 weeks ). Still no improvement. The way I print now is:
1. I go to Printer Properties
2. Change Media type from "Plain Paper" to "Inkjet Paper".
3. Change Quality to "Photo".

This takes a long time to print 1-2 minutes per page. However, this works for me since this is my Home printer and use it for printing only few pages here are there.

Good Luck

Hi my printer won't print black, test colour work but no black, therefore all text to print is blank. I have replaced the ink with a new one and cleaned it 5 times, still no black ink. Thanks

Hi

Clean it manually by removing the black ink cartridge and rub the print head into a paper with rubbing alcohol until ink flows more. Then run the print nozzle to clean the print head thoroughly. After, try to print again.

If not, dip the print head only into hot water for 5 minutes and then run the print nozzle.

Let me know if you need more help

Brother MFC-290C not printing black

Hi,

The nozzle may be blocked. So take out the colour cartridge and place its nozzle in a bit of water for about 10 mins. Bring it out and dab the nozzle with folded paper. If the tissue is blotted with the three colour it means you have unblocked the nozzle. Try now to print after returning the colour cartridge. You may need to repeat to get good results.

Thank you!!

Black ink on my Brother MFC-420CN is faint and streaky

You said you replaced the cartridges. Were they Genuine Brothers' Cartridges?

My Brother MFC-240C, does not like Generic Printer Cartridges. That sounds like your problem. Also I had with Brother's was problem with Color. Color that should be Yellow, will turn out Green, or Blue Green, etc. The Generic Cartridges, also printed lines thru the words. That's what the Companies do., so they can keep selling the ink cartridges.

Some Printers, are able to use Generic, but you have to fill them up yourself and I heard, quite MESSY, or Take them to have them filled.

So I learned, thru trial and error, that you must use the ORIGINAL Genuine Cartridges for the PRINTERS.

This is the only advice I can give you. If you find this helpful, pls rate me.

Thanks and Good Luck :0)

Black ink is not dispensing

There may be an air bubble in the black tubing, it will take several more cleaning cycles to clear. You can tell it to clean only the black and save the other inks.

The black ink will not print in my Brother 420CN

Seems like this is a problem for everyone. Try a test page (in printer function) It could be that the heads were destroyed if your previous cartridge ran dry.

MFC 420CN printer

Remove the black cartridge again and remove the plastic tape where the ink comes out and then re-insert and try again.

MFC-420CN does not print black

My yellow cartridge was doing the same thing as your black. So I took the cartridge out, and took a flashlight to see how it works. There is like a little straw on the right hand side which goes up into the printer cartridge, this I assume is to measure the ink. I took a needle and cleaned that 'straw' thoroughly. Reseated the ink, ran cleaning and test print, and then the printer found the yellow ink! You could give that a try. It might work for you too. (I have never used any ink but Brother ink in the printer, btw.)

First, wouldn't print black, now won't print magenta- all new cartridges!

Unplug machinepowercord. Open printer and take all carts out. Plug in power. Machine demands carts. Put new one in: Replace with original ink carts!. When asked push 1 (yes New cart). If you have used thirdparty carts, there could be a prob due to construticon or ink quality. In case there is no bk after 3x cleaning cycles anymore, the head is clogged: This happens because the filter in front of the nozzels is clogged by pigmented ink. DO USE ONLY DYE INK for all types of brother inkjet machines!!!

Black ink not working; but colors are

Use a original brother ink cart. Do the cleaning twice. If there is no more black blocks to see, the printhead is crashed!
