I am experiencing 'shadowing' on the screen image. I am connecting to a Sony Bravia 50" Rear Projection HD TV (number on front says KDF-E50A12U) via HDMI.
The shadowing can be seen on the TV menu screen when the PS3 is switched on. When I change channels (say from HDMI to AV) the shadowing disappears but re-appears when I switch the PS3 on. Basically, the shadowing is on not just the PS3 image, but disappears when the PS3 is turned off.
Oh - it's not the television as the Sky HD box, connected via HDMI, is always fine.
A very strange and annoying fault which I didn't notice before a few weeks ago. Maybe connected to a PS3 software upgrade? The only other thing that's changed is our families addiction to Singstar! I've changed display settings / bought a new HDMI cable, etc. Still same problem!
Sony Helpdesk suggests I take the PS3 to a Sony shop and try playing with their televisions to see if the problem still persists!
Oh - it's a UK 60 gig first issue release (whatever the correct terminology is!) which I got back in March 2007.

You should get a good surge protector. Sometimes some areas have a spike in the power. That will cause interference in the TV signal coming from your PS 3. Try out different surge protectors that should solve your problem.

You have a failing optical block. Sony is covering some of their rear projections LCD TV's for such a symptom like this. What is the complete model number and I can check to see if yours is one. The model will be like KDF50....
The dulling picture really sounds like a lamp failing. You would need the sony lamp xl-2100u
The ghost image may be easier to fix, sometimes as lcds age you will get a slight shift in a color. deep in the sony menu there is a parameter (menu-setup-imageshift) that will give you 3 levels of correction, this may solve this issue.
Your convergence ICs need to be replaced. Please respond to this same post and verify your model number and I will post the correct ICs for your model and post a link where you can get replacements with free instalation instructions.
can you post a pic of your screen to show the shadowing, as red usually isnt affected with coolant contamination it may be a convergence issue. A pic would help me be better able to help diagnose the problem.
Yes I have exactly the same problem
