VHS tape keeps popping out of VCR.

I am sending this for a friend. She has a newer VCR desk, bought just before they quit making them. She says just all of a sudden when she puts in a tape, the VHS tape just keeps popping out. I had her clean it thinking that might help, but no luck. She says it is not just the one tape, but others. Please help! She has several other decks in the house. Likes one in each room, & when one breaks, she has me get her a new one. Now, you can't buy just a VCR. It has to be a VCR/DVD combo, & it's my understanding that you can't just hook it up like you could the old VCR'S. Is this true? If so, what do I need to do to make a new VCR/DVD combo work?
Thanks for your help in advance,
BL

I suggest you pull it apart and check the many drive belts, they may be defective and loose. If they are replace them all of them.

Most everyone I know had problems with the tv/vcr combo including myself. I'll never buy one again. I'm sorry you are having the same problem.

SOURCE: Cannot get TV/VHS unit to work.

sounds like the vcr lock feature is on,

hold down the rec/time button for 7 secounds during the power on mode.

ushally goes off within 24hrs if the time is set. but seems maybe thats a issue.

try that see what happens.

and if possible give the model number of the unit please.

Quasar is made by panasonic and their guides and manuals can be found there as well..

I found this manual hoping it was close to yours take a look and let me know.

SOURCE: Have digital TV have 3 yr old sony VHS VCR DVD player combo

A DTV converter box will take digital broadcast signals from the antenna and convert them to a format compatible with the VCR. You will be able to record programs received through the DTV box on your VCR if you could record analog over-the-air programs before the digital changeover. You can use either the RF output or the component output from the DTV box to input to the VCR.

I have 1 VHS tape that will not stay in machine. As soon as I push the tape in it pops right out.

I assume all the other VHS tapes work fine, there must be some sort of glitch in the case. I suggest taking the VHS case apart and leave the tapes in the spools, now very carefully transport the spools and tape to new VHS casing and see if that will solve your problem, and remember to make sure that all the parts are present and in the right location, that should get you up and running unless the tape has excessive ware.

Magnavox TV/DVD/VCR combo keeps turning off

So after calling a tv repair guy and listening to him tell me about how it is probably something to do with the transistor and it will cost me about 150 dollars to fix ( which I could buy a new tv for that price since it is only a 19 inch) I decided to look online at this issue of turning off after 5-10 seconds. I read about it being an issue with the VCR sensor, so I don't know about it being some LED that you have to replace because I just messed around with a VHS and moving the little white bar thingy on the right just inside the door for the VHS around a bit, and Voila it started working right again. I think maybe my son tripped something by sticking things in there and whatever I touched fixed it. So my advice is to just stick a VHS in and take it back out a few times and play with a few things inside and to the right. It didn't take long for it to work for me.

I just bought a Magnavox ZV450MW8A DVD/VCR Recorder. It has recording capabilities on both the DVD and VCR components but can you tell me if I can use it to record FROM the VCR directly onto the DVD? This...

Yes, you can, I have this unit and have actually copied a dvd to a vhs and then copied back to a dvd as I wanted a dvd copy to give a friend. The directions in the book are really quite simple. They tell you how to set the vhs to the spot where you want to start copying, etc.

I have not yet tried copying my family vhs tapes, but don't see a problem, just a big project. Good luck.

Recording purchased vhs tape to dvd recorder.

How old is the VHS tape? I've had success recording older movies, but the newer ones have encryption to prevent duplication of them. I've even tried playing them on another VCR and transmitting the signal with a wireless audio/video transmitter but unfortunately the encryption is still there. If you can copy the tape to another tape, then it may not have encryption. If that's the case, check you A/V inputs to see if you have them setup right.

VCR functions do not work (play, record, ...)

Sounds like the idler assembly isnt working. Without this assembly, the system cannot get the tape to actually move, and most systems will shut down if the tape isnt moving to prevent damage to the tape. In truth, this can be a complicatred repair, requiring the machine to be taken apart quite a bit. I would suggest taking this kind of a problem to a repair shop, but with the cost of simple VCR's coming down constantly, and the upcoming switch to DTV making the machines tuner obsolete, it would probably be more economical to just replace the machine.

Adapter question

There are no such adapters that would allow 8mm, Hi8 and Mini DV tapes to be played in a VHS VCR. Only the old VHS-C tapes can fit and play in an adapter. There are several reasons why 8mm (or Hi8 and miniDV tapes) cannot be physically played in a VHS VCR: 1. 8mm (Hi8, miniDV) is a different format with different technical characteristics than VHS. These formats were never developed with the intention to be mechanically compatible with current VHS technology. 2. 8mm/Hi8 tapes are 8mm wide (miniDV is 6mm wide), while VHS tape is 1/2" wide, making it impossible for a VHS video head to read the taped information correctly. 3. 8mm/Hi8/miniDV tapes are recorded and played at different speeds than VHS, so even if the tapes could physically fit into a standard VHS VCR, the VCR still couldn't play back the tapes at their correct speeds. 4. 8mm/Hi8/minDV audio is recorded differently than VHS. 8mm/Hi8 audio is recorded in AFM HiFi mode, while miniDV audio is recording in 12-Bit or 16-Bit PCM digital audio format. So, even if the video could be played back in a VHS VCR, the audio could not be read properly. 5. 8mm/Hi8 video is of higher resolution than VHS and is recorded in a different bandwidth length (miniDV video is recorded digitally), so once again, a standard VCR still could not read the information correctly, even if the tape could fit into a VCR.
