Hello, we have a mixmaster that one of the beaters got twist a bit (in the motor area, not the beater itself). Now the beaters hit and the mixer doesn't work.
Hi, yes we have the same issue. It seems to have stripped the hole in the machine that the beater goes in to. Does anyone know where we can get these parts?Hi, yes we have the same issue. Beaters should have a wire on top side to lock, if missing will not lock. OR if beaters won't go all the way into the unit something might be stock up there to prevent them going deep enough to lock.
The gears are readily available. Just open the micer and replace them. You will have to pop the buttons out of the front and rear to get to some of the screws. Once you remove the gears, also remove ALL the grease. It has broken pieces in it. Use light lithium grease to refill the gear area HALF FULL. Make sure when you put the gears in, they you line up the marks on them with the motor shaft. One will be straight in line and one will be at a 45 degree angle. This is so the beaters don't hit.
One of the beaters had jumped a gear. I understand they are nylon gears. My wife's had the same trouble. I unplugged the mixer, removed the bowl and install the beaters if you can to see where they are touching. They were two cogs off. I grapped the left (red) beater firmly and twisted it to the left. It took a couple tries and turning on the motor (with out beaters) to find the spot where they had skipped. In the end the left beater jumped back one then two teeth and now the beaters aline properly. This will happen again with heavy dough, etc. now that the teeth are worn in that spot. Use a bread machine for the heaver dough. IMHO
If the motors had burnt out then the winding can be redone if you can get this job to a winding shop.
Other wise the motor and assmebly can be ordered from a Sunbeam service outlet. try and see if you re able to source a motor assembly from a damaged/scrapped set with a mechanical defect.
Pry the beater release button out with a screwdriver. There are two screws underneath it and one under the motor housing between the the beater holes. This will allow you to remove the chrome front cover, but not the motor and drive assembly. Getting to the part that contains the gears requires complete disassembly of the mixer. It is not designed for service, and requires patience and a variety of tools to disassemble.
It has a metal worm gear and plastic drive gears. If the beaters are out of alignment, then one or both of the plastic gears are stripped and the mixer is junk. Repair plus shipping costs equals the price of a new mixer. This is the weak point of these mixers and a fundamental flaw in an otherwise robust and sturdy design. It is definitly not the same mixer *********** bought 30 years ago.
