Hi, How do I recover my Office 2003 Auto Correct from Norton Ghost? I back up my PC image and formated my hardrive. Now I want to reover just my autocoreect file and apply it to my new Windows installation. Please advise thank you very much

Ghost saved the drive information in an image file.  Whatever you named your backup you would see *.gho, *001.gho, *002.gho.  That is your whole hard drive in a spanned image file.  Ghost Explorer is what you need to open and view these images and you would be able to extract files as your would from a zip file.  There are no restore points as you would think using Windows Restore.  Only the raw hard drive information as it appears on your dive now.  I'm  not sure if Ghost Explorer is provided with the home edition as I'm used to the enterprise for my work.

two software I've used previously are Norton Ghost and Drive Image but I don't believe you can image to an external drive. you might want to research on a newer version of norton ghost. they might have driver for external drive. Both of these software can be purchase online and download it. Hope this helps..

gho is the extension of backup file format saved by Norton Ghost, that is Norton backup program.
GHO file extension can only be opened with Norton Ghost, and restored on an hard drive, after extraction you can save data on optical support using any CD burner software.

Norton Ghost

Aquire disk imaging program such as norton ghost. Install 2nd, larger HDD into existing computer. Boot computer using ghost boot disk. "Image" existing HDD to newer, larger HDD.

Remove existing HDD. Set 'new' HDD to proper position (Master, etc).

Boot computer.

After fdisk and format you need to ensure that operative system is installed into yor hard drive. Using ghost you restore the image disk by booting from ghost image CD if you made a bootable image disk. Ensure Bios is set up to boot from CD.
If you used Norton Ghost ensure you captured the image of full bootable original hard disk drive for same computer. If it does not boot after restoring ghosted image, than the image it is probably not complete. If hard disk image is not good, easiest thing to do is using Windows install CD to installl again operative system, then you eventually restore ghost image.

does it even try to start up?

try turning the automatic restart on system failure off
tap f8 during startup so the advanced start menu comes up and select disable automatic restart on system failure.

Please use F8 key when windownxp starts and uninstall the norton ghost and then restart the system.

the only thing I can sugest is upgrade norton ghost or use another disk imaging program I use powerquest drive image this works with usb support this program is better than norton ghost I've used it on my laptop and pc backups as on my pc I do alot of editing and all editing software takes 15 gig and 4 hours to install with this it only takes 1 hour to recover all drive info. hope this helps
