I don't see that option on the receiver. I don't have a dvd player. Just the tv. When i was using the analog cables they were hooked in under TV/SAT. There is a setting for TV/SAT on the front that i kept i would have it on. The optical in stands alone...it just says Opt. 1/pcm - digital in

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

May I offer an alternative approach?

Initially, determine and postback the brand and model number of the TV unit.

Offhand, some TV units require that the external/audio out particularly the digital has to be enabled. This is so that the TV may also control the volume level of what is fed to the receiver/amplifier. On some other instances, the Audio Output of the TV must be switched from analog to digital.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

Sony BRAVIA series of TVs would have model numbers something like KDL40S2010.

Still, most BRAVIA models would have a (digital) OPTICAL OUT and an AUDIO OUT (VAR/FIX) (analog). What is important to note is that digital audio out is only available if what is shown on the TV is a digital channel on some models.

The receiver has to be set to output the audio to the optics cable. Make sure the receiver is set to what ever output the cable sound is connected to. Also check the cable box's menu settings to make sure it's audio output option is set to optics.

I hooked a optical sound cable up from my surround sound to the tv but no sound comes out

Digital optical out from TV will only work on select programming. Like Digital over the air. If you are watching an analog program or using comonent inputs you will not get Digital Audio from your TV to the receiver.

I have audio cables going from HD 61g887 jvc tv, to my phillips surround sound system under aux but it is not giving me sound?

hi
you didn't mentioned the model number of your surround sound system, for a better solution its important. any why try the following.

if you are connected the analog audio output of your tv to the system using RCA cable, then go to the setup of the surround sound system and change the input assignment setting from digital to analog.
If your connected the digital output of your tv to the digital input of your surround system using optical cable then, goto the setup of your surround system and change the input assignment to digital (optical) input.

I am using a JVC RX6000 video audio receiver, and i hooked 5.1 BMB brand home surround speakers to it, and connected my ASUS media player that has optical output and used optical cable to connect to the...

Hi,
This is a common problem. Each input will default to analog. Even though you have plugged an optical cable into the inputs of the Receiver, you have to change that input to digital.
For example, if you connect a CD player RCA cables to the Receiver. The receiver will recognize the Analog signal at the CD input. If you unplug the Analog RCA Cables and plug in the Digital optical, the receiver will still be at it's normal default input for the CD player which is Analog. You then have to switch the input, using either the remote or it may be able to be done with the buttons on the front.
As soon as it is changed to Digital, you will get nice sound.
Hope this helps,
Happy New Year,
Mark

Hooked blue ray player into the klh ha 9000 to get surround sound using av cables. All i can get is two speekers to play.Do i need to use a optical cable,or is their some other problem.

If you want to get true surround sound, you will need to have a digital interface (optical toslink or digital coax) If you are using analog cable (red and white) the best you can get would be stereo or prologic surround

Want to use all 5 speakers on surround sound yamaha htr-6230 on tv programs. how set up?

Depends on the audio source for your TV sound. If it's a digital cable box, run a coaxial or optical cable from it to an available digital input, assign it as "TV" and you're done; or if the cable box has 5.1 analog outputs, usethose to the Multi Ch imputs.

If your TV sound source is only RCA cables (stereo) you're stuck with DSP surround modes.

Ibought samsung surround sound and hooked it to the tv,but it only works when i play dvd.how can i connect to my tv so i can surround sound from tv or drem box

connect audio cables from the audio out jacks on your tv to the audio in jacks on your samsung surround. they may be labeled video 1,2 or aux. if your using a cable box the cable box may have optical or digital input jacks. your samsung surround should have a digital in jack which requires an optical cable.

How can i get sound from my Tv to go through my surround sound.

If you are using a "cable box" or "sat receiver" the audio will go from the cable/sat to the surround system with either optical, digital coaxial or analog RCA to the TV input on your surround system. If it does not have an input specifically labeled "TV" you can use vid 1 vid 2 etc. just make sure that when you wish to listen to the tv on surround that the surround system is on the correct input.

If you are using just an "off-air" antenna, your cables would go from the TV "monitor out" which will be either optical or analog RCA to the surround system and the appropriate input. Hope this isn't too confusing, if you need more help, post a comment and I will help some more. Hope this does the trick

Surround sound help

A few questions... What components are involved? How are they connected? Can you hear sound from the speakers for any other input device i.e. radio, cd, vhs, etc.? I suspect that there is an issue with the way the system is connected. I have the Surround sound output from my DVD player connected to the digital surround sound input on my reciever. I'm using digital coax cable (looks like a "normal" RCA cable), not the optical fiber connection. I had to buy a special cable for the digital surround sound. A normal RCA cable would not work. I don't know why. If you're using a similar connection, that could be your issue. make sure that the output and inputs you're using are compatible. A digital surround sound connection (in or out) can't be connected to an analog connector (in or out). Remember, Digital to Digital with a Digital capable cable; Analog to Analog with an Analog capable cable. If this is not your issue, post back here with more info and we'll see what we can figure out.

Need help hooking up to digital cable box, and tv

If the cable box isn't transmitting surround sound your stereo won't play it. You may be able to emulate it with settings on the receiver.

Sound problem

I'm fairly certain this is a cable signal issue... I have had my digital audio cut in and out and the cable company traced it to a weak signal and replaced the cabling. No issues since. Just an FYI, my setup is a Sony 6.1 with an Optical cable. There is a Blue Light indicator for Surround and when I had the problem, the receiver's light would go off and the display "blinked."
