Your black ink seems to have spilled a bit at the nozzle. The fact is even if you do nothing it should seize staining the back of the paper after a while, so long as the spill is only temporal. But if you want it over with quickly, you may try printing quite good number of pages till you see that the stops. With every print you will most certainly observe that the stain will reduce. Otherwise if you can reach into the printer with a stick or something, you may try to clean it.

Use the CANON software on your computer to run some "printer maintenance", namely a few "print-head-cleaning" cycles, to try to unclog any blocked ink-jets that are _not_ shooting ink onto the paper.

Big black vertical line on the back of the paper. Have cleaned the nozzle several times as directed by online instructions, but still ink line tehre, you say clean the nozzle with a stick, but you dont say...

Any ink on back of paper is a stain and not a print. So open the cover and look carefully and well into the printer, the path of the paper, and you will most likely see ink stain about the area where the stain occurs and wipe thoroughly with tissue a soft cloth.

Good luck 7 God bless!

I have a problem with huge black streaks on my printed documents.

It's the waste ink getting on the exit rollers instead of going where it should. Canon has a mod for that where you remove the print engine clean the rollers and exit and install a mylar shield so it can't happen again. Probably too big a job for you to do at home..messy too.

Thick black line on printed page

If the line runs the way that the paper does I.E. vertical on a portrait then it is dirty rollers normally.
If you open the lid and wipe the rollers this shoukd reduce or eliminate the black lines.

Canon mp530 prints black 1/4" line on back

But some time when you get the chance do clean the waste tank out.

  1. Start with printer off

  2. Press and hold resume Button (triangle in the circle) and click "Power" button. Green led should be on

  3. While holding the Power button, release the Resume Button.

  4. Without releasing the Power Button, click "Resume" button for two times and release Both Buttons.

  5. Click "Resume" for four times then soon click "Power" button, to confirm the selected action (reset counter absorber).

  6. Turn off the printer and turn on again

Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.

Big black line of ink prints on the back of the paper. Help!

This is caused by a blocked or full "Ink Absorber". I replaced mine myself and took a few photo's. Any waste ink is absorbed into a large area under the paper delivery rollers at the front of the printer. If there is a blockage or it becomes full it leaks out onto the front rollers creating the famous think black line.
The ink flows along the red arrows. http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm189/Shadeyman67/DSC00495.jpg

And out into the ink absorber here.

The blockage in my printer.

Hope that helps some of you.

Can't I print with only one black ink

I have a similar machine ip5000. Currently have a problem getting the big one to print and have posted for a solution elsewhere. If I print withjust the small tank it does some black work i.e. type but it needs the other big tank to give full photo pictures.

If you are just looking to print typing try changing your font collour to a dark blue or other. This gets round the black problem but you will need the 2nd black cartridge for full colour work.

Hope this helps.
