Why does the 4 lights flash red on the back of the wireless controller

When the controller is not synchronized with the PlayStation, the 4 LEDs flash. If the PlayStation is not turned on they'll flash if you happen to power the controller on. Press the PS (PlayStation) button on the controller to cause it to sync with the unit. If that does not work try plugging the USB cable into the PlayStation and into the controller to charge the internal batteries for a while and see if a full charge will help - if the radio signal is too weak coming from the controller it won't sync. If all that fails, try another controller if you have one and see if it does - could be a bad controller. Also you can go into the PlayStation settings in the controller section and tell the unit to "forget" old controller settings and start fresh. Handy to look at the PlayStation interface on the TV screen when you are trying to sync a wonky controller to see if the unit will give you any indication of a sync failure or something similar.

How to re sync a ps3 controller

Connect the controller. With your playstation 3 system powered down, connect the mini-USB --- which is the smaller of the two ends on the cord --- to the slot located in the center of the top of the PlayStation 3 controller. The USB end of the cord should then be connected to one of the multiple USB slots located on the front bottom of your PlayStation 3 console.Turn on the PlayStation 3. The console will automatically recognize the connected controller, which you can then use to operate the PlayStation 3. By powering up the console with the controller attached, the two will automatically pair up and sync.Shut off the PlayStation 3. Hold down the P button located in the middle front of the controller until a menu appears on your screen asking you whether you'd like to shut down the PlayStation 3, shut down the controller or cancel. Choose the first option and wait until the console powers down. Disconnect the cord from both the PlayStation 3 and the controller.Turn on the console with the controller. Holding down the P button on the controller, wait until the console powers up and the introduction screen appears. Your controller is now synced with the PlayStation 3 system.Troubleshoot your controller. If the above steps do not work, there is another step to take, according to PlayStation's troubleshooting guide. Straighten out a length of paper clip and then flip your controller over so you are looking at the back of it. There is a small hole in which you can insert the paper clip and reset the controller's settings. Once you do, repeat the steps above to sync your controller to the console.

4 RED LIGHTS BLINKING ON JOYSTICK,BUT NOT WORKING

If the Joystick batteries are fully charged, and the playstation is active, pressing the playstation button on the controller should sync up a channel. If it doesn't, you may have to connect it with the USB wire until it syncs properly. We have had troubles also when a controller becomes sync'd to the wrong playstation (we have 3 in this house) and the controllers can work up to 40 feet away. So even a close neighbor's system can interfere. Once you have sync'd it with the USB wire, then it should work fine wirelessly.

HI. You will need to Clear Any Failed system updates that cause the console to error. Use this procedure to acheive this .
 • With the console off, press and hold the sync up button (the small white one)
 • While holding the sync button press the power button to turn on the console
 • Continue to hold the sync button until the Console has booted up completely.
 • During the boot process the console should clear any failed updates, allowing you to use it normally.
