Altec Lansing 4.1 ADA880

can anyone help me with the Altec Lansing VS4121 2.1 Channel i need the wiring diagram of 9 pin cable i broke it. please mail me the layout at [email protected]

The one furthest from the switch is volume. The next one is a tone knob. Volume rasises or lowers the resistance and makes the guitar louder. You can also "clean up" a distorted tone by rolling off volume. Tone makes the sound more bassy or more treble.

i have exact same problem i think its got something to do with volume controller on front right speaker damn shame as the sound was awesome

The problem is that the switch/volume control is dirty.
This is what I have done.

Dismantling Altec Lansing VS 2221 speakers to clean the switch/volume control

Tools: a medium Phillips screwdriver, a craft knife & a can of CO contact cleaner & extension.

1. Remove switch/volume control knob by pulling it off

2. Pull out the base for the stand if attached

3. Unscrew the 2 screws beside the wires

4. Remove the front gauze by prising it out from one of the bottom corners. Keep the gauze straight as it will need to be put back from the bottom to the top.

5. Remove the 2 screws at the top and the 4 long screws holding the speaker. The back will come apart from the front and sides. If it has been glued then use the craft knife to carefully cut the back away from the sides and/or prise it away with a little pressure on the sides.

6. Attach the extension to the can of contact cleaner.

7. Lift the circuit board out and squirt only the switch/volume control. Ensure you squirt the shaft and the internal parts of the switch/volume control. Turn the shaft a few times.

8. Allow the contact cleaner at least 1 hour to dry.

9. Test the speakers. If the noise is still there then repeat steps 6-9.

10. To assemble the speaker do the steps 1-5 in the opposite order.

if the volume controls of the speaker is set to 100% together with the volume control on your computer then still get a low volume,try some other device where you can use your speaker like mp4,if still got same problem,bring it to a service center there might have a problem with the amplifier.

Is your system volume (Windows users would hit "Start/Programs/Accessories/Entertainment/Volume Control") turned up?

the controller chip inside your altec is possibly defective. i have the acs 45.1 and the unit wont turn on.. the culprit is the main power/volume chip.

Try to blow it out with compressed air. Then, with the speakers turned off, turn the volume knob to full volume and back as quickly as you can (without damaging the switch) three or four times. This should take about one second for three movements. Undertake this at your own risk. Turn them on and see if it has helped. Do not just keep doing this. if it doesn't help immediately stop. if it does help, repeat blowing out and repeat the knob turning, once.
