My auto attendant is not responding to calls. Feature 981 says inactive feature

feature 903 also shows inactive feature. How do you power down the flash? I have tried pulling the power to the unit and repowering but that didn't help. Thanks, Bill

  • bill3337 Dec 20, 2009

I had asked for a clarification on the last advice, but have had no response. Part of the last answer said to power down the flash? I'm not sure what this or how to do it.

  • bill3337 Dec 20, 2009

I tried that before asking the first question, but did it again earlier tonight. I unplugged for a half hour and then replugged, waited 15 minutes and tried to feature 981 and feature 903.....still says inactive feature.

  • bill3337 Dec 20, 2009

We haven't done anything to the system, but did have a power failure around the same time we noticed that it stopped working. The auto attendent doesn't answer at all. We have 7 phones on the system and the voicemail isn't working on any of them. I don't know how to reboot the answering portion separately, but I have tried rebooting the entire system several times.

What brand is your voicemail system? Are there other phones on the system still working? Have you tried to reboot the voicemail system yet? We have a starmail and once a year or so I'll have a phone do what you secribe and all I do is shutdown the voicemail side (leave the nortel box alone) and turn it back on. That usually solves the problem. You may have accidently deleted the mailbox to. If you have another phone, go into the admin and be sure the box in question is still active in the system memory.

As for AA...Did it get turned off? Do you program it from the phone or thru a PC? It sounds like all your troubles are in the voicemail system so I would definitely reboot it and post again with what happens.

I assume you have your phone equipment all together in a safe place...You should have at least two boxes on the wall. One is a nortel box for the phone system, the other is a voicemail system. Mine is a Starmail, your is whatever...

The first thing is to verify your voicemail system is still on. A power issue could have easily cooked the little power converter that plugs into the wall.

If you enter Feature 986 (or is it 983, I forget) can you get to the voicemail login?

If not, replace the power supply. If so, look into the programming.

Hi,

1) Try Feature 903. If this shows "inactive feature" as well, you will need to power down the Flash.
2) Power the Flash up and wait 10 minutes for it to adjust.
3) After 10 minutes, enter Feature 903. Select "next" on the display. When the display shows f980-f989, select "ok." This will allow you to use the high feature codes of the Flash Voice Mail.
4) Enter Feature 983. If it has a "PSWD" prompt, you will need to enter 266344 as the password. Follow the options to choose languages and complete a basic configuration. If you receive a "LOG" prompt, enter 1020000 if you have a 3-digit DN or 120000 if you have a 2-digit DN.
5) Once you have completed these steps, you will be able to access the Flash Voice Mail programming.

Let me know, if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Hello! It would appear that feature #981 (open your mailbox) is not programed. The Administrative access code is:
Feature ***23646 (password)...Which is ADMIN=23646.

You may have the Compact ICS or the OX32 unit; Which in this case is...Feature***22742 (password)...Which is BASIC=22742.

If the feature is programed then...Press feature button...Then 981 2.

If you have any questions I will be more then happy to assist you;
Just write a comment and I'll respond.

Messaging is inactive on all lines after push functions button and enter 981

Hi. Inactive feature often means that there's a problem with your connection to the call pilot. Do you have lights on your call pilot? Did you assign a mailbox to the extension you're working on? Did you remember to connect the call pilot to a station port?

Unable to access voicemail feature inactive

This means the system can no longer communicate with the voice mail. You can try to locate the voice mail and power cycle the unit to resolve the issue, If you still get inactive feature after the reboot you will need to replace the vms.

How can I activate feature 981

Press FEATURE (above the HOLD key on old sets or the Nortel Symbol on the new sets)
Then press 981 on the dial pad.

If states "Inactive when done then your voice mail system is down or the feature code was changed, either way if you do have voice mail then call your tech in to check the system right away.

HI, I can not reach my Voice mail. When I dial Feature 981, it respond Inactive feature. I am not sure what happened.

1st check to see that the feature is turned on. More than likely you have a asterisk/elastix style pbx. You might have performed an update and the defaults might have changed.

I have tried feature 981, 982, 983 etc. and I get the message "Inactive feature". What is the problem.

First make sure u r using Voicemail system which is either Star talk or call pilot.
If u r any one of this then only u can use F 981, 982 , 983 or 985. Its a feature code of voice mail.
If u r using either of this and still gettin inactive feature, then try with rebooting The Satr talk or call pilot i.e. switch off from mains wait for few mins and switch it back on.
After rebooting it will take 15-20 mins to boot up the system and after that u can use these feature.

Thanks.

Feature 981 is displayed as an inactive feature and not available

Try powering off the voicemail system and and then power it on again. I've had it happen many times that after a power failure they just don't boot up correctly.

Norstar: Inactive Feature (981)

This generally happens from one of two things. Your voice mail system is connected to your phone system through a station port. If it loses connection it will not communicate with the phone system. Loose wire or connection can cause this. or it has just crashed and will need repair or replacement.

First thing you want to do is unplug the unit wait 15 minutes and plug it back in. wait 10 minutes Try feature 981 from a set that has voicemail. if nothing. hit feature 985 from a m7310 set or a m7324 set not a m7208. If it comes back with inactive fearture now your connection between the units is bad or the unit itself is bad. If it comes back with the voicemail intercom # and you cant get into any mailboxes it has lost all programming.Try this first.

Unit will not access call pilot

Start with "Feature 9 (star) 1" from a Norstar telephone, to view the CallPilot Feature Code list. Then enter the System Administration feature code.
Good Luck.
