Windows vista & media player

I have a dell inspiron laptop that was on XP. I bought vista home premium and to save problems formatted the hard drive and loaded vista as a 'virgin' instal. however i can't get windows media to work. system says it's installed so won't re-install it, system will allow me to play music & films through media centre but i prefer media player. Any ideas how to get around this?

First try uninstalling all media players....and maybe even make sure all references to them are gone if you feel comfortable using regedit (I think that's still available in Vista but I haven't had need to use it since I was "afeared" to try the 64 bit version.) Then you should be able to install the old player....but....why not look at some of the freeware players out there. They are excellent (and don't try to take control / give you junk you don't need) and simple.

Have 2 dell inspiron 1525s, can I use the hdd from one in the other without having to reformat the good hdd

Swapping hard drives from one computer do not work because of hardware differences even between same brands and models.
You can install Windows XP on his computer but you need the Windows XP installation CD and you will need to use the product installation code from your computer. It is printed on the Windows label that is attached to the bottom of your laptop.

I installed a new hard drive in my dell inspiron laptop service tag #4360rf1 and it won't let me reinsstall the operating system i get a no bootable sector on harddrive error

When you boot up the laptop press F10 to bring up an list of devices to boot up from, select the CD drive.
OR
Go into the BIOS setup and to the Boot start up and move the CD to the top as the first boot device with the hard disk as the second device.
Your laptop will now boot uo with the Windows Vista installation CD.

I have a Dell-Inspiron Laptop 1526 I had my hard drive replace by Dell once this year already, when I turn on the computer it starts to work and then stop Running Vista my warranty was up Sept 3 2009 like...

Your trying to downgrade this means you have to use vista cd to format the hard driver, and after the laptop restart, load the Xp. Also sometimes this code comes if you donot use the original xp windows.

How to reformat the hard disk of my inspiron 700m

Easy enough To format your hard drive, insert the installation DVD(Vista) and go through the options until you get to choose which partition to install Vista on and just click the button at the bottom that says "Format".

Much the same in XP
