Printer carriage stall/stuck

Try to turn it off, open cover and move carriage a little bit by hand; don't push too hard. For some time it'll get back to life.

Issue: The Check Paper and Check Print Cartridge lights blinkIn this error condition , the following blinking lights pattern displays on the control panel:

• On/Resume light : On
• Check Paper light : Blinking
• Check Print Cartridge light : Blinking
• Black Start Copy light : On
• Color Start Copy light : On

CauseThe carriage is stalled or jammed. A message indicating that the carriage is stalled might appear on the computer.You might also experience the following symptoms:
• The product will not print.
• The carriage is stuck and does not move.
• The product makes loud grinding noises.

SolutionsSolution one: Turn the All-in-One off and then on againFollow these steps to turn the product off and then on again.

1. Press the On/Resume button ( ) to turn off the product.
2. Wait 15 seconds.
3. Press the On/Resume button ( ) to turn on the product.
4. Check the lights on the control panel to make sure that they are no longer blinking.
5. Try the intended task again.

• If these steps resolved the issue , you do not need to continue troubleshooting.
• If the issue persists , continue to the next solution.

Solution two: Make sure that the front panel overlay is installed correctlyIf the front panel overlay, or bezel, is incorrectly installed, the product may indicate a false carriage stall error condition. If the product has not been set up before, follow these steps to ensure correct installation of the front panel overlay.If the front panel overlay is already installed, and your printer has been working for some time, do not attempt to reinstall the overlay. Press firmly on the overlay to ensure proper installation of the overlay adhesive or pins.

This can be said as a bit complicated problem. This problem is exhibited by the printer when the cartridge carriage mechanism is getting stuck at some end. I should advice that you make sure that the SS ( Service Station ) of the printer is not jammed / clogged. If yes, try cleaning it. It is also caused when the motor is malfunctions and tries to move the carriage beyond the path that it should go.
It is best recommended that you consult an authorized HP Service person for the solution of this issue.

If there's a carriage jam. While the printer is turned on, Open the access door of you printer.
If the carriage is stuck at the left side, try moving it manually by hand to the right most part of the window. If it's stuck on the right, try moving it by hand to the left.
If you've already done that. While the printer is turned on, unplug the power cord from the back. Close the access door. And then plug it back in.
Make sure you restart the computer first just to avoid documents getting stuck in the print queue. Try printing again. Usually it does the trick.

You would want to try and reinstall the print cartridges. It is possible that something is just stuck that is why you are hearing the grinding sound.

Clean encoder strip with clean water, clean rod with denatured alchol you can get at Home Depot and lube with Synthetic Lubricant that you can purchase at a gun shop for about $4.

Did you try shutting it off, unplugging it from the wall and your computer for at least 1 minute then restarting it ?

Carriage system is broken. Uneconomical to repair. Sorry

try lubricating the carriage with WD40, put on a towel and rub the carriage, it may be too dry and can't move easily. " carriage stalled " means it started to move but for some reason it stopped.
