Lattitude C600 - No start

Laptop started hanging in the middle of programs and you had to reboot to get back in, no fan sounds at all so thought of heat but even running it in the deep freeze doesn't work so not heat related.
Eventually it got to the stage where it doesn't even boot at all , the lights flash as if to start and then it just stops showing only the Power in indicator.
Battery pack is dead -- is this related.
Tried removing the CDROM drive and helped at first then no change.
Any help gratefully received... just want to recover docs and email etc and then turf in the bin, had too many problems with poitning stick and so on.

If I could get it to start I would replace the OS but first need it to start.
Have made some progress.... got it to start by removing the CDR aqnd the batteries. ANDTHEN it hung again too quick to do anything

    Thanks anyway

It seems that it is more of a hardware problem and not a software problem.

It is best to have it checked at the local Dell office if it is still under warranty

My laptop suddenly hangs while I am working with it. The only thing I can do is turning off & on it and the cpu fan starts to run. In your opinion what the problem could be ?

You didn't say what you were doing, on-line? In a Program/software? I would start by running a Full scan with your up-to-date Anti Virus. NEXT, Download freeware MALWAREBYTES at : http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/ In the install, UNCHECK the TRIAL PRO version, you want the freeware version. Run a Full Scan, Delete ALL results, Reboot. NEXT, Download CCLEANER at : http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/ This freeware program will clean the junk from your machine. In the TOOLS section, STARTUP section, Disable ALL unnessary startup programs, this will speed up your starts and running. Here are other speedup tips : http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/10things/10-ways-to-speed-up-windows-7/3332 AND: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2364937,00.asp

CHARGING PROLEMS

Josh, There are several possibilites. Lets start with the easiest.
1. Are you using the original power cord? The wrong cord will heat the system up.
2. Does your motherboard fan come on?
3. did you upgrade from windows XP to Vista?

I have a dell latitude c600 that only loads in safe mode, every time i turn the laptop on it freezes can any one help?

boot up in safe mode. Start -> run -> sysedit.

De-select all items on bootup. Now reboot. If that works, then re-run the utility, check one thing at a time, reboot, and test. Keep going until you find the culprit -- then remove that item.

Another easy fix, depending on your version, is to run system restore and bring it back to a point in which it worked. Start-programs-accessories-system tools/system restore

hope that helps.

I have a Del lattitude c600/500 laptop. It makes alot of noise, get hot after a while and shot down itself. How could this problem be rectified? Thank you. Dalhatu Oyibo.

which side of the laptop is getting hot?
if it is the left side, check the bettery. it may need replacement.
if it is the right side, then the HHD need is on its way out, better backup all your files NOW and get a new hard drive.

Re: inadvertently uninstalled audio on dell lattitude 800

First I'd try to install the latest driver:
1. Go to http://support.dell.com
2. Click on "Drivers and Downloads"
3. Your best option is by using the service tag code (usually on the bottom of the laptop), but if you can't locate it, use the select by model option.
4. Click the plus next to Audio
5. Download the newest driver and install.
6. After installation, reboot and see if it worked.

MY DELL LATTITUDE C600 TURNS OFF AUTIMATICALLY

It turns on and shows the BIOS screen? Can you access via F2? If it shuts down, check the RAM and RAM slots! Wrong CPU can also imitate a dead machine

Dell C600

Here goes, first download the A12 BIOS from this page or others,

http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/BIOS/Dell/index5.shtml

Then, Run this file to make a bootable bios floppy disk. Reboot the laptop floppy will start dos mode, the updater will detect any bios newer then A12 and say finished without changing anything and come to an a: prompt.

type dir for a list of files on the floppy. If your typing gets you wierd symbols try holding the Fn key (lower left) lookfor the filename C600_A12.exe or somthing like this. type it at the a prompt exact. The bios flash will check system bios and ask your permission to revert back to A12. say Y.

Computer will reboot. take floppy out.

My batteries charge grat now, but I don't get all ythe settings pages in Bios that I should, It seems to hang when i enter Bios. Laptop works fine though. i have installed and tries all bios from A12 yo A23, the A12 seems to be the best. No problems from winXP.
