Lattitude C600 - No start

Laptop started hanging in the middle of programs and you had to reboot to get back in, no fan sounds at all so thought of heat but even running it in the deep freeze doesn't work so not heat related.
Eventually it got to the stage where it doesn't even boot at all , the lights flash as if to start and then it just stops showing only the Power in indicator.
Battery pack is dead -- is this related.
Tried removing the CDROM drive and helped at first then no change.
Any help gratefully received... just want to recover docs and email etc and then turf in the bin, had too many problems with poitning stick and so on.

It seems that it is more of a hardware problem and not a software problem.

It is best to have it checked at the local Dell office if it is still under warranty

NEXT, Download freeware MALWAREBYTES at : In the install, UNCHECK the TRIAL PRO version, you want the freeware version. Run a Full Scan, Delete ALL results, Reboot. NEXT, Download CCLEANER at : This freeware program will clean the junk from your machine. Laptop shuts off afer 5 minutes

Sounds like your laptop might be overheating. Does it reboot successfully immediately after is shuts down after 5 minutes or does it have to sit awhile before it reboots successfully?

If you can't boot it right back up after it shuts down, then it is definitely running hot and will only boot back up successfully after it sits awhile to cool off.

Things that cause it to run hot:
1) Dust... Dust clogged in the vents, fans and around the cpu and heat sink.
2) A Fan is not working
3) The Thermal Paste around the CPU and Heat Sink has dried up or is too thin to keep the unit cool.

For the best results you'll have to take the laptop apart to remedy the situation especially if you need to get to the Fan, CPU or Heat Sink.

You can try a can of compressed air and blow out the vents and fan area, that might work for a while but you'll be blowing the dust in. It's best to take it apart and blow the dust out.

Scan your computer with an updated Antivirus.
Use Microsoft Process Explorer to stop unwanted programs.
Use a system utility tool like ReginOut to fix corrupt registry & windows files. It will also remove unwanted junk files from computer.
Hope it works for you.

Over heat problem with my HP pavilion wil effect my pc performance n pc hanging. after that it will showing recover manager window with reboot my laptop. after rebooting ,It will working...

When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermaloverload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is theproblem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are cloggedwith dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make surethe vents are clear and dust free. Use a can of compressed air to do this.

The fan runs constantly and gets really hot.

You may be running too many programs in the background which can heat up a processor pretty well. You may also have a virus which overtaxes a processor. Also, always make sure that the heat vent in the back of the pc is well vented and not obstructed, and NEVER have the pc placed on something like a bed, blanket, or pillow
OK, Do this;
These are the steps that you need to take, and the instructions on how to do it:
1. Reboot into Safemode
2. Run a virus and spyware scanner while in safemode
3. Defrag
4. Scandisk
5. Registry error repairing while in safemode
6.Reboot into regular mode windows

Here is how to do it:
Reboot yor machine while holding the F8 key right as it boots back up. A menu will apear. Choose -->"start windows in safe mode with networking".
Windows will start in safe mode. Run an AVG virus scan, then run Defrag by exploring your computer, right click on C: drive, click PROPERTIES, then the TOOLS tab, click the "check now" button, and only checkmark the top box 'fix file system errors', then click ok, the computer will then tell you it will scan upon next reboot., Now click the DEFRAG NOW button. the choose defrag. After Defrag runs for about an hour and it is finished, restart the system. If is still won't run normally, go back into Safemode buy pressing F8 on reboot, then run a registry fixing program such as uniblue registrybooster, then reboot again. If it still won't run right, you may want to reinstall Windows and see if that works. If reinstalling windows doesn't fix it, it may be a hardware problem.
Good luck.

HP pavilion DV6700nr laptop looses power

If it is (and it does sound like) a heat problem, the first thing do to would be to make sure the vents are clean and the fan and heatsink are free of dust buildup.

Here is a page from HP to assist you in doing so:

Reducing heat in notebooks

If you go into the BIOS setup, many have an option to monitor the CPU temp. Watch it and see what temp your computer shuts down.

Hope this helps. Thanks for using Fixya.

Problem is related to HP tx1220us tablet PC. Since few days it is giving problem. After 30-40 minutes of working the screen get distorted, it starts showing different colors in the sides and blank from the...

You could try getting a fan for the laptop. I would recommend calling hp and getting an extended warranty (you can still do this even if your laptop is out of warrenty). I think this might be a problem with the motherboard. Lots of people have been having problems with there tx1220us over heating and burning parts up. the next step is your computer will quit booting which is where the warranty will kick in. it will save you about 150 to 250 dollars. Good luck.

Gateway laptop hang issue

Check the Windows Page File to determine whether it's system managed or manually set. The recommended settings is twice the amount of RAM installed in the machine. If set too low the system will hang often, especially when running memory hungry apps.

I would also suggest checking screensaver and power management options in the control panel.

If those don't work, close any unused applications which run at startup (Start, Run, MSCONFIG). Another possible solution could be updating your display driver.

Deep humming sound

This usually means the magnetron is failing.

Just be sure the internal cooling fan is working by making sure you feel air flow. If not, call for service right away.

The magnetron part cost is covered beyond the normal 1-year warranty, so when it gets worse or stops heating, you'll have to call for service.
