I have a new DELL S2209W Monitor. On occasion my screen goes black. The circle icon at the bottom right hand side which was white, goes orange. When I press a right hand button,it indicates: " Entering Power Safe Mode. There is no signal coming from your computer. Press any key on keyboard or mouse to wake it up or press the input button on your display to switch to another source". The screen does not come back on and I have no mouse arrow. I then have to turn off my computer power and then back on to restore my computer and screen picture. Why does my pressing a keyboard key or mouse not restore my screen? What is the input button?

Hi there,

I want you to try something next time this happens, instead of rebooting the computer, just cut power to the monitor. Then switch it back on.

Does the screen come back up?

Comment back and let me know

Mike

The S2209W is designed to be run at the optimal resolution of 1920 x 1080 http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/monitors/S2209W/en/ug/optimal.htm
selecting a lower resolution will result in generally unsatisfactory appearance. This is due to the hard wiring of the pixels in LCD screens.
What you can do to abate the text being too small is adjust the DPI setting from the default of 96 to 120, or even 144 if you need real large text

Poor Resolution on Monitor 2

what u can do is.... 1) Backup your Registry first

2) go to Regedit....Start>Run>Regedit
(this is assuming u have latest Nvidia driver's installed)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/NVIDIA Corp/Global
In global. Make a new KEY called NVTWEAK
In this key, make a new DWORD value called Coolbits now, change the value of coolbits to 3.
Now when you do into Settings for GFX and advanced settings....you will notice a CLOCK SPEED/FREQUENCY tab. Change them.....go up like 20mhz....or 30 or 50...too high will screw ur card...too low isn't worth the trouble.
So, slowly go up little by little until you notice s--- on ur screen that's dodgy..then just fall back behind that Freq.
Also....another fan taking heat AWAY from the GFX card wouldn't do any harm either.

Don't forget to rate this solution.

Black screen

I had a much older dell laptop (2001?) that did this. For whatever reason it had 5 or 6 drivers loaded for the monitor/display. Of the five, four were identical. I disabled the identical ones and kept the normal one enabled and this solved the problem.
