My sony KP-65WS500 has a bad red picture tube. So I followed the earlier post to turn down voltage and the red tube now works. But after its been on for about 4 or 5min the red fads alittle from the picture. Its not a big problem I was just wondering is this still the picture tube or could it be the bulb. The red also ficklers very slighty every now and then.

It was probably my post--SD TECH--you may want to tweek the red screen a little up or down--if it still acts up it is the picture tube--

The adjustment procedure is only meant to help and not cure the problem--try to get it as good as you can and live with it.

I have been involved with replacing those tubes and it is no picnic--you remove one--send it out for rebuild and put it back and do major adjustments--usual cost for rebuild is near 300 JUST FOR THE TUBE--real problem is that sooner or later the two other tubes will start to act up.

I composed those instructions to try to give people an option--to buy them some time--the picture tube is what some call a bulb--one in the same thing.

Lots of these sets had all three tubes changed when under warranty--what really happened is Sony put the wrong tubes in the sets to begin with.

My best advice is adjust it as best you can and when it goes replace the set.

Regards, SD TECH

I have a sony KP-65WS500 Ztv turns on but screen is blue with lines. I can hear sound but cant get tv on.the red light blinks five times.. Does anyone know what is the problem?

Can you confirm the actual model number of this set? Some had issues with the picture tubes being bad but depending on model number there may be a fairly easy way to adjust around this to correct the issue.

The screen turns red then the tv turns off

An issue dealing with the red picture tube but usually a simple adjustment of the screen control inside the set will correct this problem.

Sony KP-65WS500 TV shuts off by it self....after I turn it back on, a minute later it goes off again.

The 8 blinks means its a High Voltage error which mean ur D- board is bad it'll be T8005.

Kp-65w500 green flash... led blinks 8 times

I am going to guess that model number is actually KP-65ws500

This is one of group of Sony sets that had bad picture tubes---red, green, blue----the tubes are no longer available and can only be obtained by removing the bad one and sending it out for rebuild (very expensive)

There is one easy thing you may be able to do to correct this problem---It involves no replacement of parts and is just adjusting the Green screen control---usually if this is the case when set comes on background will be somewhat (in your case) green---best way to see this is turn set on and have it on a unused video input---if screen appears somewhat green and has curved retrace lines--you may be able to turn the Green screen control down and continue to use the set---set will shut down if any of the 3 picture tubes pulls too much current--ie--goes to bright green, red or blue.

Let me know if you want to know how to attempt this

The screen turn completly red after about 20 min being on

Usually that is a sign that your red picture tube is ailing. However there is a chance that it can be adjusted out, at least buy you time worst case. There is a voltage control in the front of the TV, you have to remove the bottom front half of tv to get to it. Some Sony's have 2 screws hiding at the bottom of set in front hidden behind 2 plastic covers, others just have screws along the backside.Be careful there are wires to front panel attached so remove slowly and leave wires on just move it out of your way..Once you remove that there is a small access panel to take off. You will see the voltage control (small plastic square with 6 knobs) The top knobs are focus controls for each tube the bottoms are for voltage adjust. The far right knobs are for red.So you can turn the red voltage control SLOWLY to the left, this will reduce voltage.Reduce until you see the red lines disappear. If you go too far one way or the other with the voltage control the tv will shut down and you'll waste time readjusting and turning set on until it stays on. If you can't adjust it enough to get all the red out without shuting down tv tube is in too bad of shape.
