How do I make my Dlink wireless router secure

There are several methods for "Securing" your router. I'll answer in general first, and if you need more info, just ask. Here are the top three methods to make your Router "Secure":
1. Create a Password for the ADMIN access to your router. This ensures that no one can get to your router through your IP address, and make changes (like adding their own computer to your DHCP Table). Be sure and record this somewhere safe.
2. Along with this password, Create a "Passphrase/Security Code", and install this code in your Router's Wireless Settings. I recommend sixteen digits, mixed alpha and numeric (recommend using lower case alpha only).
3. Create a Table of TCP IP addresses which emcompasses ALL the devices you will be allowing access to this router. For added security, make your range OUTSIDE the default range. Example: 192.168.0.210 to 192.168.0.214. That would give you Five devices, and ONLY those five devices could connect (this is your own situation). Then set the "Number of Devices" to just "5".
4. There's actually a fourth step called "Locking it Down" to those devices ... but first get to the point where you can actually SEE these devices connected within the router's DHCP Table. GOOD LUCK!

Can't get blue ray to connect with wireless

If the login keeps failing it could be security level related. Some devices are not compatible with the higher levels of security settings that the router can provide. Try turning off the routers security and see if the blue ray can connect to the wireless network without having to log in. If it does then turn the security back on but at the next lower level. I find WPA2 Personal is the most compatible higher level.

How do I connect my Macbook to my Kodak wireless printer with my Belkin G+MIMO router?

When you added the WPS encryption ket to your wireless router, this secures your wireless network from unauthorized access to you wireless network.
To allow your wireless computers and wireless printer to communicate with your wireless network the wireless cards in the computers and printer needs to be configured with the WPA encryption settings that you configured in the wireless router.

Have a Linksys Wireless router Model WRT160N Security is set at WPA2 Personal i can not get my new iPAD to connect when i diasable Security it connects I am looking for a suggestion I also need...

@joea1956

Try the following:

1. If you want WPA2 encryption on your router, (which also have higher security and compatibility issues with wireless cards), you could try WPA2-TKIP (which is standard encryption and made compatible for all wireless cards) or WPA2-AES (for specific wireless cards that are unable to connect to TKIP encryption)

2. If Step 1 won't work, try to lower your security encryption to WPA-PSK (either TKIP or AES) and try again. If this works, your IPAD2's wireless card doesn't support WPA2 encryption yet.

If all of the above fails, I do not recommend WEP since it's easily cracked (for advanced users) but you could try it as a last resort.

Good luck.

How do I get the security key setting?

Hi,

I see that you are looking for the security Key settings, to be able to get your security key settings fir the Router you will need to get your Routers IP address.

Step 1. click the stat button on the lower left side of your Desktop screen, click all programs and look for Accessories, then click command promp this should show a black screen with a blinking cursor type in ipconfig then press enter this will show you information about your networks ip address, Look for Default gateway something like this 192.168.2.1 this varies on the router that you have.

Step 2. Enter the IP address on the address Bar of your browser then press enter this should show you the Routers settings page that is where you can see your routers settings for the security key.

to see your security key in windows you will need to check in device manager and click open Network and sharing center.

Upper right hand side you should see Manage wireless networks, click on Manager wireless networks it will show you a list of wireless Routers that you laptop has connected to, in the list look for the Router that you are connecting to and double left click on it it show you a window click on security this will show yout the settings for your windows security but the security will be encrypted as dots, the above instructions will show you how to get the security key from the router to be able to enter it in your windows settings and make the security key on the Router and your windows the same .

I hope that I have answered your question about getting your security Key :)

I added a security code on my Westell 327 for my wireless network but now my remote computer cannot connect to the wireless network. Do I need to reconfigure the router?

You will need to check the wireless settings of the router.
If your network is secured then make sure that you are typing the correct network key.
also make sure that the DHCP server is enabled on the router.
is there any computer connected to the router ?
If yes then you can open the router set up page on that computer.
Router set up page is the page where you can check all the wireless settings of the router.

Win xp desktop connected to wrt54gs router wants laptop running win 7 to connect wirelessly

We need to know the wireless settings on your router before configuring the laptop.

To check the wireless settings, access the setup page of the router by using the desktop's internet browser. In the address bar, type 192.168.1.1.

Default login is: leave the username blank, then the password is admin.

Once you are in the setup page, go to the Wireless tab.

Take note of the wireless network name (SSID).

Then go to the Wireless Security tab. Take note of the wireless security settings and the network key (if wireless security is enabled).

On your laptop, in the lower right corner of your screen you will see an icon that looks like this moz-screenshot-1.jpgc147bd5.png.

Click the icon and you will see a list of available networks.

Select the SSID of your router then click connect.

If the wireless security is enabled, it will ask for the security key. Type the wireless network key, then click ok.

It will then connect wirelessly.

Good luck!

I have a netgear router and trying to find out if it was set with secure settings. the provider i have can't answer this question.

Connect a computer to the router and log in to it by going to http://192.168.1.1 and logging in. The Default Login is usually admin with a blank for password. Once you have access to the router go into the Wireless section and check the security settings.
