White line appearing vertically down the left side of the page

We recently replaced the photoconductor unit, and since have noticed a white line appearing down the left side of the page - in all of our print outs. Can you please help?
Thank you.

in black OK. Incolour across page vertical band of faded colour 6mmwide about 50mm from right hand side all down page like a faded stripe. Also on colour printed bands in a graph say red prints OK but Cyan is white where band stripe is.

Have used cleaning stick on side and examined photoconductor but see nothing wrong. Cyan carride chnged as it was indicating low but non of these actions changed the stripe effect. Have followed all guide lines .

    What is causing effect .

All my photos and printed documents where graphs are present are ruined.

I have only printed just over 1000 pages so am very dissapointed with the printer even though early results were brilliant. For such an expensive machine I would expect to get at least 5 years quality prints.

Can you tell me what is wrong and how to corrct fault..

I had a line for months! Then I got a line going down the middle of the page. So cleaned and poked around inside put back together and another line! 3 vertical lines! Came on here and went back with a hairdryer on cold setting blowing around the inside of the printer and now its perfect!
Cheers all!

Hi I have just noticedthis post. I have exactly the same problem with my printer, and wondered if you found a solution to it, or if the advice you were given worked. I really need some help with this, so any advice will be greatly recieved. I have been trying for months to sort it, but don't want to resort to calling out an engineer because they charge the earth.

    Hi All.
It is a common problem with that printer due to the rotary technology Epson used.
The reason is a heap of toner building on the laser glass. Epson knew this would happen and they found a simple solution. Facing the printer open the front(not upper) cover. You will notice a small grey lever on the right. Pull it towards you. After that notice the small cover on the right big grey cover. Remove it and you will find the laser glass cleaning wand. Dangle it several times and you will clean the glass and the problem should be solved.

There may be a speck of trash (very small even) on the corresponding side of the drum or anywhere in the path of the paper before the fuser at the end. A can of compressed air may help. But guard against breathing in the toner when trying this, and it's best to do it outside to keep things inside from getting a nice coat of black!

Hope this helps, and please rate my advice, good OR bad.

Good luck!

What is a Photoconductor Unit? Why does it need replacement? How much does it cost to replace the photoconductor unit?

photoconductor unit is a drun unit which does the actual copying of image on the paper. its life is 60,000 copies. its will need a replacement because after a while you will notice there are black marks appearing on your copies or your copies are not good or black shades. photoconductour unit is just beside toner supply unit. you can pull out the whole unit.

Blue dotted line of right side of paper

Sounds like the cyan photoconductor unit needs to be replaced. Usually what ever the color dot is that photoconductor has a pinhole in it and the only to get rid of it is to replace it.

I had exactly the same problem. Luckily we have 3 of these printers. Swapped the photoconductor and it solved the vertical streaking, even though the photoconductor was only half way through its life.

C524 has narrow vertical slashes down left hand side

This problem is 99% of the time the photoconductor. Try removing and reseating. If this does not work, try another one. Even though you state that you just replaced it, on rare occasions, defective ones get shipped out. Usually the manufacture will replace the defective unit for you when this happens. Also make sure that the locking tab that holds the developer in place did not crack and therefore loose. I have seen this many times where the clip that holds the developer is damaged.

Black vertical lines on printed pages

check the "photoconductor unit" (pg 37 in the Maintance manual)

ours was doing it with the magenta and saw a faint 'scratch' on the roller. will attempt to replace and report back if this fixes it.

Pale, unreadable print

Make a copy and stop it in the middle of the procedure...take out your drum unit and check if all the image is there(on the drum and on your sheet)....if so, put everything back in position and make another copy and this time stop it just before it goes out....if you see your white line there you might have a fuser problem !

I found this solution in the web and it worked!

The slider on the left hand side (i think) of the machine has slipped. Remove the cover, and you will see a large white cog with a white vertical slider behind it. On each you will see a small arrow. You have to remove the cog and line up the 2 arrows on the cog and slider and then reinstall the cog. This should solve the issue.

The left hand panel of the laser printer was a bit tricky to get up but a bit of perseverance. Then remove the white cog by releasing the two tabs round the center metal pin. You need to align the vertical slider's pointed end with the horizontal slider's arrow precisely as even slight misalignment will not fix it. Then fixed!

Vertical streak near left edge of printouts....only affects black portion of print image

Where best to look will depend a little on the nature of the smudge. If what you're looking at is white, then you might just have a little heap of toner or paper dust on part of the LED array that paints the picture onto the photoconductor drum (look for a narrow unit that stretches full width, adjacent to the drum. Dark marks may, if you're lucky, be down to dirt on charger wires. Both respond well to cleaning with a vacuum and a soft cloth (be very gentle if cleaning the wires). I would be inclined to trust the existing photoconductor unit unless you know it's been abused (e.g. by leaving it lying around in daylight) or the coating on the drum is visibly damaged. A.
