Acer Aspire 3680 - No headphone sound

I get no sound from SPDIF port. Seems like a common problem listed here on your webiste. Tried the listed solution (standby and boot on), tried jiggling the port, opened computers bottom and tried jiggling different components. Sometimes sound comes on and lasts several hours and sometimes just disappears.

i don't get the option of digital and analog in Control Panel, sound devices. In RealTek Audio, I have the option and digital is on

  • k1ahmed Jan 25, 2008

As suggested somewhere else in this forum, putting laptop to "Standby" mode for a minute and then powering it back on works.. so far. After research on net, this seems to be a common problem with Aspire 3680. I really couldn't find anywhere in control panel / sounds and audio device any option of adjusting the digital out frequency.

Same prob, same prob, exact same. Only solution is the "standby" one and I might add to wait a moment after standby before going active again. Also probably wise to shut down the program you were trying to use before standby and then reopen after.

I have had the same problem with my acer aspire 3680. I have been trying different things, and have found one thing that works for me. When I shut the computer down I unplug my speakers first. When I start the computer I wait until the computer starts completely then I plug my speakers in. This has been working for about a week for me with no headphone jack problems at all. Hope this helps someone.

Go to, look for the Support link, then find Drivers and Downloads. You'll need to select your specific laptop, which will give you a list of drivers (look for Realtek audio device). Make sure that XP is selected as the operating system, as drivers can change from one OS to another. You might find several drivers that are newer or missing there, too.

Cannot hear sounds through headphones

if you are able to hear normally from the speakers and not from the headphones possible reasons could be:
the audio is muted or very low
there is a mute switch on the headphone that is turned on
the headphone is not firmly plugged in or is in the wrong site eg microphone
hope it helps
please inform if it helps..

No sound when headphones cabel is into laptop

If you are using Windows Vista, the solution might be that you have to go into your control settings, and set your headphones as your default speakers. This is a one-time deal, and once you do it once, then your computer should auto detect when you are using them after this.
