To connect your Emerson TV to a remote control, you can follow these steps:
Make sure the batteries are properly inserted in the remote control.
Turn on the TV.
Locate the remote control sensor on the TV.
Point the remote control directly at the sensor and press any button to see if the remote is working.
If the remote is not working, try changing the batteries or resetting the remote control.
If you are still having trouble connecting the remote to your Emerson TV, you may need to consult the TV's manual or contact the manufacturer for further assistance.
If your Vizio remote quits working, it can from having low batteries, or a blocked TV sensor or a power residue of the remote and the TV or a dirty power source or a stuck memory of the remote or problems with the TV itself.
Make sure that none of the remote buttons are stuck or jammed . Try and reset the remote. The remote might not work temporarily due to the poor contact of the battery or and static electricity. Remove the batteries from the remote.
Check the remote control for its infra-red emission. Check it with fresh batteries. Check by pressing all the buttons on it; and see whether all of it generates infrared signal while pressing. If it is found OK, check and replace the infrared sensor inside the TV. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. It has details about how to check a remote control; by one among the post. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. If the remote control is found OK; check and replace the infra-red sensor inside the TV. Contact any service technician. http://electro-medical.blogspot.com/
Usually on any equipment with a remote---if you hold remote real close and it works you have either a dirty lens for the receiver or a defective infrared receiver in the unit-----odd that moving things would cause this.
If it is only the on/off function having a issue--that would rule out both of the possible solutions I suggested.
Be sure batteries are new/good and no indirect light is hitting front of unit where receiver is located.
Easiest things to check first: Are your remote controls working: check batteries; check infrared on remotes by viewing with camera phone/camcorder; make sure your remotes are programmed properly for the device.
Another option: do a hard reset of your TV-unplug it and let it sit as indicated in the manual; then turn it back on.
Another option: unplug the TV and use an air-can and thoroughly dust ALL the component input/output access points on the TV. Turn the TV on and see if this works.
Another option: unplug the TV and connect standard 1/8" headphones in the output of the remote OR headphone jack on the TV [try both]. Turn the TV on and see if this helps.
Finally, if these steps do not work: unplug the TV and let it sit for a good hour. Open up the back panel carefully and air dust the remote control sensor. If this does not work, change the remote control sensor.
What model is the TV and what connection is in the back?
If you have it connected to a VGA / DVI or HDMI the resolution setting maybe too high and this can cause the TV to turn off usually due to overheating. Also a good thing is to unplug the TV from the power mains and clean out with a cannister of air.
Check the sensor with any camera pointed at ir sensor on remote It should be giving no light when the remote is not in use... If there is constant light some button is stuck...and if that;s the case open the remote and clean contacts...
I actually was having the same problem and just fixed this. I just unplugged the tv from the back for about a minute and then plugged it back in and it worked fine, so give that a try.
Yes, I have been seeing a lot of those Toshiba IR receivers bad lately. Replacing it with a new one should take care of your remote problems. If you have never replaced small parts on PC boards then have a qualified tech handle it for you.
