We bought 2 of these humidifiers and are blowing smelly air into the room. Kind of like a new product smell. I've run them for a few days, hoping it would wear off, but it won't stop. Any suggestions?

Are you using clean water to fill the humidifiers?

Put a drop or two of perfume or air freshener (spray freshener into a cup, then drip into humidifier water.). Could also use a drop or two of PineSol or other perfumed liquid cleaner.

Does not dehumidify

Hello. I am here to help. Let me begin by saying that a dehumidifier only needs to be operated if the humidity in your home is too high. If the humidity is low, the humidifier will have to work really hard to try and remove water from it.

Here is an overview of how the dehumidifier is supposed to work:

When the unit runs, the circulating fan and compressor also run. The fan continually draws room air over the evaporator coils, which are cold, and then over the condenser coils, which are warm. Because the evaporator coils are cold, the moisture in the room collects on them--just as the outside of a glass of icy liquid "sweats" on a warm, humid day. When the moisture on the coils increases, it drips off of the coils into the collection container.

The air then flows over the warm condenser coils and out into the room. This process removes water from the air and, because of the heat from the fan motor and compressor motor, the exiting air is somewhat warmer, as well as dryer.

My humidifier isnt working properly, it is not using any water

Make sure you soak the wic with COLD water and don't ring it out. Make sure when your putting the tank back in that you don't spill any water into the fan vent. If you get even a splash into the vent, it makes that awful loud motor noise. If this happens just let it dry out on it's own(over night). Also try cleaning the wic tray. It tends to get slimmy from the water sitting in it. If you ever see that your tank is empty, wet your wic when you refill it. Make sure you rinse and wet the wic EVERYTIME you refill the tank. The wic dries out fast and can start smelling pretty bad if you don't rine it regularly.

Thick Cloud of Steam

I would say that the beauty of steam is that it has to get through the 100 degree temperature to leave the aqueous state - i.e. to move from a liquid to a gas.

The benefit of that is that any organizums in the water should be killed as a result of that process. Its possible that it smelt musty or old stagnant water smells but to be honest there is little change of harm to the little ones.

Best wishes

Water on floor around humidifier

I haven't had any problems with my Vicks Cool Mist Humidifier other than the fact that the area surrounding it is slightly wet after operating for a couple of hours....While I understand that I was using this to moisturize the air during a cold, I knew this would happen, because the air in my room is not dry. If the room isn't dry, the mist that it's putting out in to the air has no where to go but surround the humidifier. All I did to stop this was to buy a water proof mat. I suggest you do the same -- Also, in regards to the water smelling -- You should be cleaning out and drying the basin after every use. Water shouldn't smell unless you let it stagnate inside the plastic -- Try running distilled vinegar through the machine for a couple of minutes -- Also, I would use an extension cord and let it run outside so that your house doesnt smell like Vinegar.

The fan blows but the humidified air stops after 2 seconds?

This is an old post, but you can make sure the humidity adjustment is full high. Perhaps it is defective or possibly, the environment is as humid as the high setting will allow.
