The lint screen was being removed (top of dryer) and the lint came off the screen and rolled back into the unit. I fear the dryer may now over heat and burn out the heating element. How can I access the lint screen sleave and pull out the lint?

in order:
1. Plugged vent system
2. Clothing(ie. sock)stuck between lint filter And fan.
3. Lint in heating element(electric dryer)
I would start by Comparing air flow from vent exit to air flow from back of dryer after pulling dryer forward, removing vent hose and see if you have strong air flow from back of dryer. If air flow is different, then blocked vent system.
you have to unplug the dryer, and remove at least one of the wires and read it out with a meter to check it for continuity.you can go here and see the parts you need to check,http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Roper-Parts/Dryer-Parts/Model-RED4440VQ1/0893/0151200/W0905172/00003?blt=06&prst=0&shdMod=RED4440VQ1 check the element, part number 17 on the diagram and is part 279838,if that's good check the thermostats on the heater box, part 9 and 15 on diagram,if one of them is bad buy part number 279816,it replaces both of them, also check the thermal fuse number 7 on the diagram and it's part 3392519.your lint filter is on top so all your parts are in the back, pull out the dryer, unplug it,remove the vent line and then the back panel, also take out the lint filter and the two phillips screws that are on the top panel and in front of the lint filter, when you're in the back, remove the 4 screws and clean out the metal duct that the filter slides into,if the vent line is a long run you can blow it out with a leaf blower, make sure nothing is blocking the air flow outside,if there's a cage or screen remove it so the lint doesn't build up and block the air flow.hope this helps and good luck.
Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly
What your describing is probably an air flow problem. Pull off the rear vent connect and start the dryer on no heat first. The air-flow should be strong enough to push a relaxed hand and wrist gently a short distance away form the outlet. IF you do not have this kind of air flow the apr passages inside the dryer are clogged with lint.
The passages that need attention
1. The lint filter. Wash it with vinegar and water then soap and water. Dryer sheet particulate or clothing will clog the screen. It wil look clear / clean but, it can be totally blocked.
2. The lint filter cavity remove the lint filter and use a folded wire coat hanger in a U shape to assist in removing lint while using a vacuum to get rid of the lint.
3. Use a flashlight and check the exit vent on the back of the dryer for a white / gray restriction of lint build up. Ust the folded wire coat hanger to assist in clearing the ducting.
4. ANYWHERE you can access ducting clear it.
5. Make sure to check all of the ducting from dryer to the vent flapper outside the house. The thru the wall vent flapper is on of the most common reasons for vents being blocked.
After the serious cleaning session re-test the outlet on no heat to see if it will push your hand and wrist gently away from the vent outlet. If you have good air flow reconnect the vent and check air-flow outside the home at the thru the wall vent. It should be very brisk.
If you can not establish good air flow then there is a problem with the fan / blower wheel. It is most likely damaged. Broken blades, center hub cracked and the wheel is more or less floating on the motor shaft.
This should resolve the problem BUT if it does not respond here and I will help you.
How is the vent discharge air flow out the back of dryer? If not very strong check out lint trap cavity for blockage or obstuction causing lint to build up, blocking air flow from drum cavity. Once found a pocket comb that had got into lint trap housing and created a lint dam blocking air flow.
Something is still blocking the air flow to the outside, or the motor is burned out. Pull your lint filter out and turn the dryer on. You should be able to hear and feel air rushing through the lint filter hole. If no air is coming out the blower motor is porbably burned out. If something actually stops the blower wheel from turning it will quickly burn the motor out. Remove the back panel to access the fan motor. Be sure to unplug the dryer before removing any panels. If air is flowing at the lint filter, your vent line is stopped up.
No air flow is due to a restriction due to lint build up. Pull the lint filter and look closely at it. Sometimes the filter gets a residue from dryer softener sheets that can cause lint to stick to the screen and block air flow. To remove wash it with a mild detergent and use a gentle brush on it.
If that is clear then the restriction is further inside the dryer or in the vent pipe between the dryer and wall or the pipe that goes from the wall to the outside. You may have to take off the vent hose and turn the dryer on to see if air blows out the back of the dryer for a few seconds. If air blows there then the problem is in the house venting and you need to have that cleaned.
Did you clean the exhaust from the wall behind your dryer to the outside. This is more important than the dryer exhaust system itself. If not get behind dryer and remove exhaust to the wall and using a leaf blower,(electric) put it inside house vent then push dryer back to hold in place go outside and watch to see what all blows out. Good luck.
Sounds as if there is something (lint buildup maybe) that is blocking the air flow inside this machine. You need to remove the top and front of this machine so you can view in internal working parts. Clean it out the best you can and also remove the rear cover and check where the fan blade is located and this general area. I have seen rats nests built inside the tubes that will block air flow and create a fire hazard.
Overheating usually occurs when air flow thru the duct/vent is blocked. Try removing your duct hose from the back of the dryer and clear it of any lint. Check the area where the duct connects to the dryer itself and remove any lint that may block air flow. Then go outside and make sure that the outside vent is cleaned out. Reassemble the duct to the vent and make sure its not crimped or bent. Remove all link around the lint filter and make sure its clean! Good luck!
it sounds like there is no air flow check outside of home where vent exits house there should be strong air flow it either a blocked venting or a bad blower fan in the dryer most likely blocked venting start outside then work your back to the dryer if no air flow outside remove venting from the dryer ifgood air flow here the vent is blocked if not blower fan most likely broken these blower fans drive hub round out on the motor shaft of the motor but it would be very loud this should fix it for you thanks kevin
