I had this very same problem with my unit when I first got it too. And I just went out and purchased a brand new memory stick duo and put it in, and for some reason, wallah! It was working like it never had a problem before! But you should clean all the contacts, blow inside the magic gate and make sure there is no debris/etc. inside there. Also, like the guy before me said, try upgrading the version of your software....

Not able to copy movies on Sony 8GB Memory Stick Pro Duo for PSP

Before you go throwing any old video file onto your PSP, make sure you have the following items:
  • The PSP. This is self-explanatory.
  • The .MP4 video files.
  • Video conversion software to convert non-MP4 files to MP4, the format the PSP reads.

Misfunctioning 4GB memory stick pro duo

Are you formatting it with your computer or PSP?

  1. Push the little HOME button on the bottom left of the face of the unit.
  2. Use the arrow keys to move to the SETTINGS area, then move the up and down keys until you get to System Settings.
  3. Once you are there, click on the "X" button and scroll up and down as needed to find Format Memory Stick. Click on "X" again to select that option.
  4. The Sony PSP will now confirm that you want to reformat the memory stick (which removes every file and game save thereon, of course): choose yes and it'll format in just a few seconds.
It that doesn't work - try formatting it with your computer.

PSP not detecting files on a 4gb memory stick PRO Duo

There are certain folders that the PSP puts on the stick when it formats it. Format the new stick on the PSP first. Then, you can transfer you files to it.

Memory Stick Pro Duo 8GB on PsP

Two possibilities.
1. The firmware on your PSP is too old to recognise the 8GB (only recognises up to 4GB).
2. If firmware is up to date you have a fake memory stick (easy way to check is to check the info for the memory stick on your PSP if its says that MAGIC GATE is unknown rather than supported then it is fake.

The fake ones typically double compress the data so that it appears to have 8GB when in reality it does not.

PSP 1001

If you have important data on you memory stick, back them up on your computer. Then format the memory stick with your PSP. After that, put all your PSP data from the computer back onto your memory stick.

See if the PSP recognizes your memory stick. Hope that works! ^-^
