51 says that the purge assembly is jammed. You need to un plug when printhead is out of the right corner or see if you can pull the head out to the center and look on the right side with a flashlight, remove any paper scraps or paper clips, if nothing there you need a new purge assembly, a shop repair.

Printer says that it is offline. cant return it to online.

Brother posted a Network Connection Repair Tool in the support section of their website. You can look up your model and it is very easy to install. Follow their directions carefully!!! Worked great to get my MFC printer back online with my network.

I have a brother 5860cn mfc and have lost the disk to install ther printer onto my windows 7 computer. How else can i do this?

Hi,

You can download the installation driver and software from manufacturer's website by clicking this link

On the page which opens:
  • Select the operating system of your computer (Windows 7/ Windows 7 x64 edition) from the drop-down list
  • Select the Language (English) and click the Search button
  • Download and install the drivers and software from the next page which opens.
Hope this solves your problem. Thanks for using FixYa.

Print unable 30 error

Hello,
The print unable is an error caused by build up of dust on the encoder strip. Unfortunately there is no easy way to reach the encoder strip to clean it without taking the machine apart and putting the machine back together after you take it apart is not easy.
Paying to repair the unit is a little over priced and not usually worth it. On the bright side, Brother's new line up of ink jet machines allows easy access to the encoder strip to clean it without hassle.
Thanks,
Pat

Brother MFC-5860CN printing issues after switch Win2k to WinXP

Are the settings in the print driver set to the highest quality setting? If so, this will slow the print speed down tremendously. Try changing the default settings in the print driver to a lower quality (or resolution) setting.

My Brother MFC5860cn is printing very spottily. Can I clean it myself or do I need a repairperson.

On the left hand side of the front of the printer itself there is a button labeled "Ink". Hit that button and follow the prompts on the screen and it will take you through the steps to clean the heads and also align the printing if needed.

MFC-5860CN

On the right hand side, on the front of the printer, next to the top paper tray. There's a plastic piece that comes free and the four cartridges are inside there.
