I need the bios and flash program for a gateway 4535gz I suspect it has a bios virus because a fresh install of windows XP pro and symantec anti virus and drivers (all freshly downloaded) becomes corrupted upon first reboot. gateway support.gateway.com does not list the bios and their e-mail help auto responder is useless.

oops. I accidentally used the 'report abuse' to post a comment. Sorry. That was an accident. Please remove the abuse report and make it a comment.

I explained that the original problem was a BSOD at boot up, missing file. Repair reinstall of winXP/sp3 fixed the problem 'temporarily', so I booted from BART PE/CD and scanned with CLAMWIN portable and removed malware. Fixed the windows again and after a boot, the problem was back.

Scanned the hard drive and found a bad block, imaged the drive, replaced the drive, restored the image.
    Rinse/repeat, same problems.

Formatted and installed winXP/sp3 fresh, updates downloaded and installed but computer not rebooted. Installed Symantec Anti virus and updated definitions.

Restart. Symantec no longer running. unable to update definitions.

    Memory check showed no problems.

Another format, reinstall os, update, boot

error message about missing profile and system hangs.

I have run out of ideas.
I want to reflash the bios. Can't find.

    Please help!

There is no such thing as a BIOS virus. However, there are such things are boot sector viruses. Before you reinstall XP again, wipe the hard drive completely by deleting and recreating the primary partition.

Gateway errror 594 how to fix?

Update your Adobe flash player software to the latest version:
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

If that doesn't fix it you might have some viruses and malware.

Start your PC and press F8 several times until the boot menu comes up. Then select "Safe Mode with Networking". Now get some or ALL of the FREE programs below.

Download, Install and Run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:
http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=5756
When Installing choose the non-pro version.

Download, Unzip, Install and Run TDSSKiller:
http://majorgeeks.com/Kaspersky_TDSSKiller_d6895.html

Download, Install and Run Super Anti-Spyware:
http://majorgeeks.com/SUPERAntiSpyware_d5116.html

If you have an outdated Anti-virus program then Download, Install and Run Avira Anti-Virus:
http://majorgeeks.com/Avira_AntiVir_Personal_-_FREE_Antivirus_d955.html
Make sure to select ALL of the "threat categories" when you install or configure Avira........

You should be in pretty good shape if you run and install all of these programs.

In a situation like this it's most likely you have come across a virus, whether it be a trojen, worm, ect. Backup all your important files from your computer, documents, pictures, movies, music. Once this is done, reinstall your copy of Windows XP, and make sure you have a good anitvirus, malware, and spyware programs I recommend using either Avira Anti-Virus or AVG for virus protection, Malware Bytes for malware, and Super Anti Spyware for spyware, all of which can be obtained freely. You can find these programs on www.filehippo.com Just search for them, and you can download them from this site. Install your protection after installing XP, then run a scan on your backup data before you put it back onto the computer, just in case any of these files may be infected!

My symantec Anti-virus 10.0.0.359 is out of date. It has been 7 months after 1st time installation. Now it doesnt works. So i want it to start work again. What i should do?

I suspect you got 6 months free subscription to Symantec Anti-Virus when you bought your PC. If you want to continue to use it you will have to pay a subscription fee.

If you don't want to pay for Anti-Virus software, uninstall Symantec using the "add/remove programs" control panel then download and install AVG 11 Free Edition:

http://free.avg.com/gb-en/download-avg-anti-virus-free

If you wish to install AVG in any language other than English, there is a link at the top of the page to change the language.

Throw away the Symantec software.

If you have a "legal" copy of Windows XP/Vista/7,
access http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials and download/install this *FREE* anti-virus software.

Make sure that the "Windows Firewall" is enabled.

With the firewall and the anti-virus, you do NOT need the Symantec software.

Best virus/spyware protection

be careful when using symantec, it is a real resource hog! It does a good job, but is also expensive and costs annually to use. I use all the same items as GregL except i have had a lot of problems with SP3 :/ then again i normally install it on a working machine, and it messes somthing up. On a fresh install of windows XP it should do fine (SP3 that is)

Downloading

Hi kja2 ,

2 anti-virus software can not co-exist on a computer system ; therefore you did the correct thing by uninstalling the old anti-virus first . However , there are lots of anti-viruses which do not get deleted (uninstalled) by going to Start > control panel > Add/Remove program. These anti-virus have to be removed by special "uninstallers" . I do not know which Anti-virus you have on your system , therefore I will provide you with the link of most common anti-virus uninstallers :

Symantec: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039
McAfee: http://ts.mcafeehelp.com/displayDoc.asp?docID=408302&categoryId=246&lastCategoryLog=1&HotT
Trend Micro: http://esupport.trendmicro.com/support/viewxml.do?ContentID=EN-1033129

once the antivirus is removed through the uninstaller , then try installaing the new anti-virus which was giving you "files corrupt" message ... it will then work fine.
Also , . I would like to suggest you a very good anti-virus which you can download free of cost from internet :

Goodluck :-)

Windows Installation gives blue screen errors.

Hi, at the boot up go into your bios [ on MSI press the delte key continuosly] and turn OFF the onboard virus protection. This can block all O/S from loading as they need to write to the bios in the installation process. Ensure you turn it back on after installation, it is there to stop hackers getting into your bios and wrecking your system. Regards mistyman
