Finalising a disc enables the disc to be played on any other compatible machine. By doing this it changes the disc format so that you can no longer record to it turning it into a Play Only disc. On your Panasonic DVD Recorder you can record to many (if not all depending on the model) of the following DVD Disc formats to the limit of their capacity over multiple occasions. The disc in question can be played back and recorded to on the DVD Recorder during this time but until it is finalised it will not work on any other machine. DVD Formats: DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD-RAM, DVD+R, DVD+RW. How do I Finalise my disc?
When you have finished the initial recording stop the disc and press the ~FUNCTIONS~button.
Using the ~UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT arrows~ on the keypad select "To Others" and press~ENTER~.
Using the ~UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT arrows~ on the keypad Scroll down to "DISC MANAGEMENT" and press ~ENTER~.
When the disc management screen opens you need to use the ~UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT arrows~ on the keypad to scroll down to "FINALIZE" and press ~ENTER~.
Using the ~UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT arrows~ on the keypad select "YES" and press~ENTER~.
Using the ~UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT arrows~ on the keypad select "START" to begin finalizing the disc, please note by pressing start here you will no longer be able to record or edit the disc being finalized.
Finalizing may take up to 15 minutes. Do not disconnect the mains power in this time. A message appears when finalizing is finished, press the enter button when this appears. It will now play on other compatible machines.
I recently got my MC6 and have not had this problem. We are using Sony R+ DVD's. After recording it asks if you want to finalize it- select yes. It goes through its gyrations and then ejects. What kind of DVD's are you using?
Most DVD player can't read open session discs, meaning when you burn your DVD movie there's an option there that when your disc is not full you can still add files on it, it's open session, in your case if you want to play it on dvd player you must select the finalize the disc to close the session and you can play it in any dvd player you want.
JVC DVD Recorder – Finalizing and disc space First, you will need to know if the program was recorded in XP mode, SP mode, LP mode, or EP mode. To find out how much room there is left, put the dvd in the tray and press the Disc Menu/List button on the JVC remote. This will display the title and how long it is - write that number down. It will also say either "XP,SP, LP, or EP" - write down that mode. In XP mode, a DVD will hold 1 hr and 20 mins worth of prgramming - MAXIMUM. SP mode = 2 hours. LP mode = 4 hours. EP = 6 hours. So, if your program is one hour, and you recorded in LP mode, you have 4 - 1 = 3 hours of space left for recording on that disc. If you finalize a disc, you will no longer be able to add more programs to that disc, unless the disc is a + or - RW disc. Also note that finalization requires some disc space, so if you recorded a program that is exactly 1hr and 20 mins long, and you recorded it in XP mode, then the disc will probably not finalize correctly. That being said, the finalization directions are on p. 23 of your manaul: Title --> Finalize --> => --> find finalize --> Enter --> OK --> Enter Now it will play on other players. My JVC DR-MV7 will not accept any disc for playback. I insert a movie disc and it consistently rejects them. After about 15 to 20 attempts, sometimes it will stay and begin reading the disc. It also sounds like some internal components are encountering some resistance (moving parts inside?). Any ideas?
The reason why you are having this problem is because you haven't finalized the disc. In able for you to play that Burned DVD that you have you need to Finalized the disc.
Finalizing a recordable optical disc means writing the disc's lead-in (the Table of Contents or TOC) and lead-out information (blank data that fills up the unused space at the end of the disc) so that a DVD player will know where the various tracks begin and end. Without the TOC, a conventional DVD player will not be able to read the contents of the disc.
Once the disc is finalized, no more information can be written to it. Finalizing takes about two or three minutes.
To finalize a DVD-RW/DVD-R:
1. Press the Menu button with the disc stopped.
2. Select Disc Manager and press Enter or the right arrow.
3. Select Disc Finalize and press Enter or the right arrow.
You will be asked twice if you are sure that you want to finalize the disc. Select Yes and press Enter.
Once the disc is finalized, you cannot delete entries from the record list. After being finalized, the DVD-R/DVD-RW (video mode) operates in the same manner as a DVD-Video. Recorded discs must be finalized in order to play back in non-Samsung DVD players.
A DVD-RW disc that has been recorded by DAO (disk-at-once mode) in a PC cannot be unfinalized.
A DVD-RW disc that has been recorded in Video Mode on a non-Samsung recorder cannot be unfinalized by a Samsung recorder.
A DVD-R disc cannot be unfinalized.
Note: Finalization does not apply to DVD-RAM.
If you cannot finalize a DVD-R or DVD-RW disc, make sure that Disc Protection is turned off. If you are still having difficulty, you may try calling technical support of SAMSUNG.
Note: Do not turn the recorder off while it is finalizing the disc. Data on the disc will be damaged if the finalization process is interrupted.
