This is a very common issue on the PS3. I have written a FixYa Tip on this problem. See this link for a work through on the causes and the solutions.

If it helps please do take time to rate the Tip and many thanks for using FixYa.

Just to add I have mistakenly given you a link about the PS3 and just realised your problem is actually with the PSP!

If your unit is still under warranty it is best to return it for repair as you need to be careful that you do not void the warranty by attempting repairs yourself. If your warranty is expired you have nothing to lose by attempting this simple repair.

It is likely to be the laser that is causing the problem and the unit is not recognising the disk therefore will not spin up. Occassionally firmware has been known to cause an issue like this on the PSP and you may want to check if an update is available.

Before attempting to clean the lens - first remove the battery from the PSP for a minute. Reinsert it and try booting up with the game already in the PSP. This has been known to work for some people in getting the unit to recognise the disk again.

If this fails see this video on how to locate the lens. You will see it flash red in the video. With the PSP turned off use a Q-Tip and some isopropyl alcohol gently clean the lens. The video also shows you how to test the lens to ensure it is working properly.

Hope this helps and apologies for misreading your post earlier.

I used my PSP two days ago. then today i went to turn it on and it wont turn on. whenever i push the button to power, the green light flashes but doesnt turn the psp on! Please help!! Read more: Psp Wont...

It could be a number of things. 1. When you don't play your psp for awhile the battery dies. So try plugging it in. 2. If you have ran any online downloaded program recently you could have the bricker virus. Witch you would have to send it to sony to be fixed. 3.Try removing your memory stick and battery then turn it on with the power adapter plugged in.

My son's psp (the older fat version) has stopped reading discs

Not sure is this actual PSP or play station. If it is Play station It is very possible that there is problem with laser that reads disks. Try to by PSP cleaner and run it and this might fix the issue.

Psp wont read any disk or play any video on any websites

Did you happen to play a "pirated" copy lately? PSP has new safeguards that literally shut down your unit if suspected pirated software/codes/hardware are used... if not, try a hard-reset (refer to owners manual) and see if that solves the problem!

Hope that helps!

Disks wont read

First try cleaning the lens. Mine got dust on it, and it stopped reading UMDs.

A little rubbing alcohol and a q tip and it might work.

use 70% alcohol to clean the lens. Use that stick that you clean your ears with. And use not to mush alcohol. Let the lens dry for 10 minutes and try to play a UMD disk again.

If that doesn't work and still under warranty just send it in and they'll fix it for you :) Good luck!

Psp original fat kind wont read disks

you can find a used fat modle on crages list for around 40 bucks, and used fat ones at a place like game stops 70-90. one option i would try is a little rubbing alcohol on one side of a Qtip, wipe the lazer eye very gently with the wet side then dry it with the other end of the Qtip, let sit for about 10 mins and giver a go. (DO THIS AT OWN RISK) =D if your very gentle you wount mess it up, the eye is glass and some times it just gets dusty. hope it helps

Sony psp

have you tried various disks? certan disks may either be scratched or dusty so you coul take a can of compressed air and ust out both some umd's and the umd tray of the psp. also, if you're usuing a custom firmware, you may find it will work once you revert to an official firmware

My psp will not read disks

Put a umd inside wait a sec or two open and check if there is a red light, den the lens is fine its most likely that your cd has been scratched. Try using dev-hook or a custom firmware to read games from memcard
