Sansa Clip Frozen at startup Screen

I have two SanDisk players. One freezes after startup. I tried resetting it... held up on the off button 15 secs, but no luck. When connected to the USB of my computer, Windows says it is unrecognized. Any solution?

I am running Media Player 11. I was able to get windows to recognize the player by putting the player in hold mode and holding down the center button. Windows recognized it and I was able to charge it. However, it still freezes on the SanDisk sansa splash screen on startup and never progresses to the Music menu.

Here is how to fix it on a windows machine:

    1. Plug the Clip into your PC. If Windows does not recognize the clip, unplug it, turn it off, and then put the clip in "hold" mode by placing the on/off switch into the hold position. Hold down the middle button on the Clip while you plug the clip back into your PC. It should recognize it.

    2. From "My Computer", find the Clip icon and choose format. Note: this will delete all your music files on the Clip.

    3. Download the firmware updater for the Clip:

    4. Follow the instructions to update your firmware.

    5. If you need additional assistance try calling Sandisk's tech support:

How do you reset a frozen player?

Slide the power button on your SanDisk Sansa MP3 player up.

  • 2 Hold the power button on your Sansa in the up position for about 15 seconds. This action serves as a powering down of the Sansa device.
  • 3 Wait for your Sansa MP3 player to restart and let go of the power button. Actions taken during your last operation since powering down normally have been deleted and your player is now reset.

How to Reset a Sansa Clip

The Sansa Clip is a high-quality MP3 player. It holds hundreds of songs and is built for portability. The "clip" allows you to attach it to your clothing or belt while you are working out or on the go. Even the best MP3 players can encounter some problems, and the Sansa Clip is no exception. If your Sansa Clip freezes up and does not respond, you may have to try resetting or reformatting it.

Turn Sansa Clip on. Press the "Menu" (home) button.

Press the bottom of the scroll wheel until you reach the "Settings" screen. Push the center button to choose "Settings."

Scroll down to "Reset All" and select. You'll be asked to confirm the reset. Select "Yes." This option will simply allow you to reset the language and location settings on your Sansa Clip. It will not erase data from the clip. To do a complete factory restore, follow Steps 4 and 5.

In the "Settings" menu, scroll down until you reach "Format" and then select. You will be asked to confirm that you wish to format. Select "Yes."

Wait for the screen to say "Formatting Complete." You have now cleared all the files from your Sansa Clip and reset it to factory settings.
    Resetting a Frozen Sansa Clip

Push the power button up and hold it for 20 seconds. Release it, then turn it on again.

Go to the Sansa website and download the "Sansa Firmware Updater."

Select "Run" when the updater installs. (Installation will take less than two minutes.)

Wait for the Sansa Firmware Updater to run through its system test. It will ask you to connect the Sansa Clip to the computer to update your Sansa's software.

Connect the Sansa Clip. Remove it from the computer when instructed. If this process does not unfreeze your Sansa Clip, contact Sansa support at the Sansa Firmware Updater website.

    Tips & Warnings

You should download the Sansa Firmware Updater to your computer even if you aren't having a problem with your Sansa. This will ensure that your device software remains up-to-date and free of technical glitches.
Reformatting the Sansa Clip will erase all songs and data on the device. Resetting will simply change your player's settings.

Did you try to reset the player? You do this by sliding and holding the power button on the side for about 15-20 seconds. I have a Sansa Clip which resets in the same way. Best of luck!
