My HP 4315 won't print; the screen says fax. I've turned both the computer and printer off then back on, checked to see my USB was plugged in properly, and since I printed with it in the last two days the USB cable should still be good. Some time ago I uninstalled the fax component of the printer so I shouldn't be seeing fax on the screen. It's not supposed to be there anymore. My 4315 is way out of warranty. Suggestions? Thanks, George

Computer won't detect printer

A quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Simply disconnect the printer from your computer (if USB connected)> reboot your pc > unplug and re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns on, reconnect it to your computer (if USB connected). Then try to print again once the computer fully recognizes the USB connection or when the WiFi light on the printer turns solid green (if WiFi connected.).

If that doesn't help, try the steps below:

  1. Disconnect the USB cable connecting the printer from your computer.
  2. On your computer, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes.
  3. Delete the Lexmark print object.
  4. Reboot computer.
  5. Re-brick your printer by pulling out the power supply - black box where the power cord is plugged into on the back of the printer, and re-plug after 30 seconds.
  6. When the printer turns on, reconnect it to the computer.
  7. Wait until your computer fully recognizes the USB connection. To check, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes. If you see a new Lexmark print object in the list, try to print a document to verify that the problem is fixed.

You may also try to update your printer driver by visiting the Lexmark website at http://bit.ly/nJ7AgN. Select your operating system, download and execute the file.

My HP OfficeJet 4315 All-in-One printer defaults on FAX mode for some reason. How do I change it to print?

To better help you I did the work for you... I copied this from the HP forum which if you google your issues most of the time you find the answer!

Copied from: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Other-printing-questions/HP-officejet-4315-all-in-one-printer/td-p/411239

There are generally two print devices set up when an all-in-one with a fax is set up - one is the fax device and the other is the printer. Make sure you have the print device set as the default printer and/or that when you want to print that the printer and not the fax is selected.

Setting the proper printer as default would depend on your operating system, but for most versions of Windows you would go to the printers folder, right click on the non-fax version of the Officejet 4315 and select "Set as default".

HP Officejet 4315 All-in-one I am a Mac user and I cannot do duplex printing or two sided printing

Mac uses a generic driver for all printers. have you verified that duplex printing is check under the printer options?

System Prefs -> Print & Fax -> select the printer, Options and supplies -> driver.

NOTE: if it says print using "Generic postscript driver" you will need to install the manufacturer driver for the printer to get the option to turn on the duplex printing.

My HP officejet 4315 v All-in One is set as my default but the status shows offline, how do I turn the status to ready and to be able to print from the computer?

Click Start and then go to Printers and Faxes (XP), Printers(Vista), Devices and Printers(Win 7)
1. Right Click on your printer Icon 2. Click Open or See What's Printing 3. Click the option that says Printer on the upper left corner of the window that pops up. 4. Make sure the only thing that is checked under that menu is Set As Default Printer. 5. If Use Printer Offline or Pause Printing has a check mark. Uncheck it.
Try printing again. I hope this helped.

I have a HP 4315 officejet all in one and it prints fine...but when i try to fax a page it fails every time...why?

Good Day Sir, I have a solution to your problem, hope this will help you.

"HP 4315 officejet fax failed"
solution:
  • Turn off the machine by using the ON button and then unplug the power cord from the back of the machine. After a few seconds, plug the power cord back in and turn the power on.
  • Try to send or receive a test fax.
  • If you are running the test from the Fax Setup Wizard (windows) or Fax Setup Utility(Mac), Make sure the Machine is not busy completing another task, such as receiving a fax or making a copy. Check the display for a message indicating that the machine is busy.If it is busy, wait until it is finished and in the idle state.
  • Make sure you use the phone cord that came with the machine. If you do not use the supplied phone cord to connect from the telephone wall jack to the HP All-in-One, YOU MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO SEND OR RECEIVE faxes. then after you plug run the test again.
  • If you are using a PHONE SPLITTER, this can cause faxing problems. connect the machine directly to the telephone wall jack.
run the test again to make sure it passes and the machine is ready for faxing.

Goodluck and God bless.

Printer won't power up

Yup that's the thing to do eventually. Is this a model with built in power supply or does it have a 'PowerBrick' to plug into? Fool around with this area some before finally sending it back- connections firmly in place etc.
