I have an old Panasonic PV 7400, but the remote is lost. Ijust bought a univeral remote (GE brand). It works to turn it on, change the channels, and set the clock. But, I cannot set it up to record later. How can I set up a later time and length of time to record a progam when I am not home to hit the record button.

You will need to switch the VCR to take it's signal from "E" (external source) as opposed to a TV channel - This is usually done by scrolling through the channels using the up/down key on the remote (but could be a separate button)

The uiversal remote companies pride themselves on working with any TV. Many of them have an 800 number (should be right on the package when you buy it) that will give assistance with TVs like this. Most off brands are actually made by a name brand maker and if you (tediously) try all the codes you should find one that works at least the important features.

You are probably talking about the main menu that appears when the TV is taken off the AC power outlet, to get rid of this page just turn the tv off and on again and it should give you access to what ever channel was tuned before, if your game console has an RF out, your TV should be set to channel 3 ir 4, if the console has composite outs the change the channel until the TV goes to Aux in or Video in. Retrevo.com has an instruction manual available which you can download free, just in case you need more informantion, if the channel keys do not work, then you may have to get a universal remote ,they are fairly inexpensive and will come in very handy at least for the basic functions or just have theTV worked on.

very sorry for that but you can be changing channel manually on the tv channel buttons, if you sweep on all channels you can go to AV from RF channels, that is before you buy a remote.

the tape is trapped in the mechanisms, you have to strip the VCR down to get the tape out

Hold down the play/repeat button on the TV itself for 5 seconds. That toggles in and out of demo mode. ;)
