There are a couple of common problems this model has--one is easy to confirm.

How handy are you if I tell you to disconnect the convergence board to see if it is your problem?

The blinking blue light means the set is in protective shutdown, and I know a fairly easy way to see if it is your problem and how to fix the set if it is.

Let me know if you need help--I am here to help people and l know a lot about this set.

the most common problem this set has is convergence problem--a simple way to find if it is your trouble.

You need to remove the entire large plastic grill under the screen on the front of the set. It is secured by 6 screws--two on either side at the back and two tiny ones where the front control door opens.

Once you get it off (DO ALL THIS WITH THE SET UNPLUGGED) remove the inspection plate you will find behind it. There is a circuit board right behind it with metal heat sinks with fins. This is the convergence board--if you look close you will see from the front of the set one plug from that board goes to the POWER supply board to the left (again as you look from the front) locate it and unplug it-then plug the set back in and see if it turns on--if it does the convergence will be out the window but if it comes on with that board disconnected your problem is with the convergence board.

Try this if you can and let me know what you find. If the set comes on I can tell you exactly how to fix it for less than 30 dollars.

I can pretty much give you step by step instructions for that problem. The photo is of one of the two convergence chips this set uses.

if you disconnect the convergence board and it still does it--problem most likely is in based on your description audio circuit--not as easy to narrow down--you have a decision to make--either get a schematic and start checking or have a pro look at it....the popping in the speakers (if that is what you are hearing) suggests either an audio problem or something in the main power supply is being held down.

Not every problem can be instantly resolved and not all answers get a favorable rating here.

    Hard to tell from here

Hello, followed the steps to diagnose my JVC av56wp74 and it worked like you said. I unplugged the wires from the power supply board and it turned on but convergence out. What do I do next?

    SD Tech Jul 29, 2011

first: remove entire front grill beneath screen on front (screws on either side on back and two tiny ones on front at control door).

Second : you will have to remove board from front of set (behind inspection plate) three plugs are identical and you need to mark so get back same place (convergence yokes) and one cable goes back and plugs into another board.

Third: with board removed examine the resistors in front of the two chips, any burnt ones will have to be replaced.

the chips are available from Suburban Electronics and you will need some heat sink compound also; I can explain how to unsolder and remove chips.

see attached photos of board and let me know what instructions you need---

Why is the blue light on front blinking

My answer is based on the model number here-AV-56WP74 or similar--blue light blinking is shutdown to protect the power supply in the set.

A few questions you could answer:

before this happened was screen red (too much) or had colors skewed or a little 3d looking?

The most common issue on this set if that is convergence and it can easily escalate to where it shuts the set down and blue blinks constant.

There is a simple way to confirm or deny that issue--Got someone willing to try that? Set will be unplugged and entire front grill under screen removed to try it(I can tell you how and what to do)

If no skill at all--consult a shop--if want I will answer questions or comments you post on this page--(add a comment button)

TV is not responding

Your description does not tell me very much---You have a JVC AV-56WP74 and it does not work?

If the power light up front which is usually blue in color just blinks I can tell you a easy way to know exactly what is causing this problem.

If when you turn the set on the blue power light just blinks---that is short protection--most of the time a fairly cheap fix----LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU ACTUALLY HAVE GOING ON.

I am here to help---I do this here for free.

Do not hesitate to ask me for help or advice.

My jvc 56" proj. tv pops several times when i turn it on but the screen stays blank

Ok, I suspect one of the two convergence chips is shorted, this is usually the most common reason the light (blue?) just blinks.

I can tell you in a easy way how to prove this without replacing any part--

What kind of skill do you have?

This entails removing the front grill under the screen and disconnecting the Convergence board behind the inspection plate.

Our JVC 56in rear projection tv cut off and when we tried to turn it back on is makes a thumping sound and the blue light on the front blinks and the thumping sound gets louder... Help??

The problem is one of the video drive IC's on the crt boards is bad. These IC's are located behind the front speaker grille. The board connected to the bottom of the crt's will have these ic's on them. They will be screwed into a metal "heatsink" The part number is TDA6111Q

Tv comes on then goes black power light blinks on and off modle # JVC AV-56WP74 56

Check the coils on the main board. Coils mean round ferrite donuts (1 inch or less) with copper wires on it. I have seen this come out.
if not check convergence amp ic's

Jvc av-56wp74 power up failure

Hello hwkdoc,

What has happened is that your shutdown circuit relay has tripped and it looks like it also may have malfunctioned. This however is not the cause of your problem but a symptom. The cause of your problem is an over-current condition caused by one of the systems in your TV, I would suspect the high voltage power supply or the switching low voltage power supply. These are the first places to look, if they are not the problem then check the convergence correction amplifiers. Right now the shutdown circuit is keeping the TV from coming on. If you do not have a background in electronics I would advise you to have a qualified TV technician analyze and repair your TV.

Thank you,
