For the past several months I have noticed that my clothes after washing smell great and then i put them immeidiately in to dry with a dryer sheet and they come out smelling musty like they have been stored. Then when you use them, like say a hand towel, the smell gets off on our hands when it gets wet. Any ideas? I have been told something about cleaning some part of the dryer possibly? Thanks
Try drying your clothes without the dryer sheet and see if the smell is still there. If it is not, then the problem is the dryer sheet. If it is, then you need to describe the smell better. Different people handle smells differently. What smells musty to you may smell fragrant to others. You need to determine if the smell you don't like is really a musty smell, or is it a fragrance you don't like. Have some friends (not family members) smell the clothes and verify if what you are smelling is musty or fragrant.
It could also be that even though the clothes smell OK out of the washer, that the detergent you are using is the cause.
Same problem. We don't use dryer sheets. When using the low heat cycle on our Electrolux gas dryer, the clothes come out smelling moldy and you're right, towels when they get wet transfer the moldy smell on to your hands. Dryer is only 4 months old. Washer works great.

Is the machine operating properly, or are your clothes getting a musty smell?
The musty smell has a few solutions, One may work but probably a combination of all will work best.
Immediately move wet clothes to the dryer, do not let them sit in the washer for a long time. If your clothes smell, put mouthwash with your clothes directly in the tub during the wash cycle (this will not stain your clothes) leave the door open when not in use (lets it dry out) If the washer smells, use bleach and hot water in an empty cycle once in a while (kills just about every kind of bacteria or mold which may be causing the smell) Use washing machine cleaner once in a while(can be found at your local grocery store isle next to detergent) Dry your clothes completely, damp clothes can start to smell again.
If you are looking for a new washer, try to find a newer model that features a stainless steel tub with silver impregnation. The silver is a natural disinfectant.
I started adding 1 cap of bleach with 1 cup of water to all my loads in the bleach dispenser and this stopped the smell problem with my sweaty clothes.Sour towels i fixed with using Win high performance sports detergent plus my usual dose of he detergent along with a 2nd rinse.Keep the lid open when not in use always.
Run a wash cycle (no clothes), with a cup of baking soda, regular detergent and hot water. Leave the door open after each wash day to dry the interior which helps prevent mildew returning.
It is a POS dryer, we have the same one. My suggestion get another dryer. We vacuumed it all out (don't you have a problem with the lint catcher?) Then it started loud pounding noise, which a lot of people seem to have the same problem, then our sensor went out and we had to dry the clothes 5-10 x's...now crack in stainless steel drum and is chewing up all our expensive clothes!
washers and dryers dont make smells themselves its a problem with something u might be putting in it. if u tend to add alot more detergent then usual to your towels then they never completely rinse the water out and will have a mildew smell
