How Can I Fix My Laptop DVD/CD Player? It's Not Working Right Anymore

I have a problem with my laptop cd/dvd player. My laptop cd/dvd was working fine 2 weeks ago, but now the dvds It used to play will no longer play except one. It recognizes one of the dvds from my box set but the others It no longer recognizes. I don't understand why, and I don't know how to fix It. It keeps saying no disc in my E drive. What can I do to fix It?

Thank you very much, I will try that as soon as I get a cd/dvd cleaner. The dvd that was playing has now also stopped working so I really would like to try this as soon as possible. Is there any sort of anti-virus software that you would recommend? Thanks again for all of your help, I really appreciate It very much. ^_^

Provide a CD/DVD cleaner disc and clean it maybe it help;
I encoutered that problem 3 months ago, the DVD ROM recognized only few DVD disc, other DVD's won't even the windows is freshly installed. The laptop was return back to the store they replace it.

However, in your case; it work fine before so maybe i suggest you to clean your DVD rom using the cleaner, if not work then , scan your computer with a potent antivirus, if this not work also, maybe i recommend to format and reinstall the system,

If all of those are not working maybe its time for you to enjoy the warranty of your laptop if the laptop has a warranty. hope this help.

Now a days the most potent antivirus is garnered by Karspersky, However all the antivirus are good. Most of the antivirus make with there own specialty of killing the virus like any variant. If you like at no cost , i will recommend you a symantec corporate edition because the client side is free. You can enjoy more antivirus free for home use. The AVG antivirus and its antispyware its all free.

My dv 6500 pavillion hp laptop is not registering dvdr-cdrom in my computer but still spins when rebooting

The drive continues to spin every time you reboot the computer, that is normal. If the drive is not able to read any CD/DVD, it means, either the lens that reads the data has lost its life as the player is aged or the CD/DVD is not properly burnt.
If you encounter the same problem will all DVDs then definitely the DVD player lens is dead that it could not read CD/DVD anymore. Its time to replace the player if the spare is available or you can buy an External DVD player from staples or officemax or from any reputed stores.
My suggestion would be to go for external player, as we dont rely on players always.
Also external players are relatively cheap compared to that of internal spare of laptop.

My gateway laptop's dvd/cd drive stopped working, all of a sudden, but it plays music cds, it is just the DVDs that don't play them or even explore... what could it be the problem? how do i solve it? it...

Are you sure yours is a DVD player? It could only be a CD-CD writer, which will NOT play DVDs.
Open your control panel ->system->hardware->device manager and click on the DVD/CD-ROM drives icon. The listed devices will tell you if you really have a dvd player or not. If you do really have a dvd player, try a different dvd

Problem in cd-dvd drive of hp laptop

This is not a driver problem. It is almost certainly a problem with yourdvd/cd player. If it is reading dvd's, then it means that the driver is installed. You will have to take your laptop in and possibly get the cd/dvd player replaced.

ACER laptop, CD/DVD not working

Hi there

Thanks for posting your problem on fixya

It means your CD/DVD player is not attached properly. Please restart you laptop and go to bios

To go into Bios -- Press del key as soon as the pc restarts.

You would see a black screen as soon as you del key. Please check on boot priority and check there if you can see your CD/DVD there it means you CD/DVD player installed properly.

Please take you laptop to some hardware shop and if its in warranty period then go to service center

Thanks

Detects CD but not DVD

Hi Chopadepve,

Please try this method but be more careful during working out on it:

Since your DVD drive reads cd's, but not dvd's It shows that the hardware works fine. Now we need to Edit the Registry to fix this problem.

1) click the start menu
2) click on "run"
3) type "regedit" and click ok
4) go to string key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
5) delete "upper filters" and "lower filters" in the right side window.
6) right click my computer in the start menu.
7) click properties
8) go to the hardware tab
9) click device manager
10) expand the dvd/cdrom drives
11) right click the dvd rom and click uninstall
12) Reboot PC

Windows should automatically install a clean ROM drive after the reboot otherwise Open the device manager window and click "scan for hardware changes". DVDs just read fine if you have the correct DVD decoders.

If no luck then might be DVD read head wiped out.

Regards
ELLIN

Dvd decoder

YOu need a 3rd pary dvd player software installed, Like power dvd. Power DVD , Win Dvd etx, you should have gotten a copy of a player when you brought your computer, If you didnt or cant find it you can download one, many have trial versions or you can get a free one.

If you get a trial version of Power Dvd it automatically installs a dvd decoder. even if power dvd trial expiers and you cant use it anymore you will still be able to play the dvd's on windows media player cause the decoder will remain there and media player will have axcess to it :)

CD / DVD player not listed as device on Windows Explorer

Try physically removing the player and fire up the laptop. Power down the laptop, replace the player and power back up. If that doesn't help, see if BIOS recognizes it.
If that doesn't work, get back to me.
