To secure the wireless network or to change any settings on the router you will need to access the router set up interface.
Open the set up interface of the router . Make sure that your computer will be connected to the router with the Ethernet cable.

Once you open the set up page of the router , you will find the place to change the wireless settings of the router. In case of Linksys wireless router , you will see the Wireless Tab at the top.

SSID : It is the name of the wireless network. This name will be shown on your wireless computer or the wireless device so that you can identify your own wireless network. All the routers come with their factory default settings. For example , the Linksys router will come with the Linksys network name.
It will be better to change the wireless network name.


Wireless Security

Change the security mode to WEP. This security type is supported by all the operating system. When change the security mode to WEP, you will find the Network key box to type the network key. Do not type anything in the Passphrase box. Type your network key in the Key 1 Box. If you set the encryption to 65 bits, your network key will be 10 digit hexadecimal number. that means you can use the combination of 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and letters a,b,c,d,e,f only. remember it should be exactly 10.
If you set the Encryption to 128 bit, your network key will be the combination of 26 digits. You will need to remember the network key.

WPA

This is one of the most secured type of encryption.
Open the set up interface of the router. Change the wireless security mode to WPA personal. You will find the passphrase box. in this box you can type any password for your wireless network. The password should be the combination of number and letters and it should be 8 or more than 8 characters.
This security type is supported by WINDOWS XP SP2 and above Operating system.

WPA2
This is one of the highly secured type of encryption.
Open the set up interface of the router. Change the wireless security mode to WPA personal. You will find the passphrase box.In this box you can type any password for your wireless network. The password should be the combination of number and letters and it should be 8 or more than 8 characters. Keep the Algorithm to TKIP.
This security type is supported by WINDOWS VISTA and above.

Once you change the wireless settings on the router , try to connect to the new wireless network .

Wifi password reset

Once you log into your router click on the wireless link.
On the bottom of the wireless page click security.

I want to use my Ipad with my d-link wifi system, but I do not know the password to unlock the system. How can I retrieve this password.

If you have not changed the default login to the router then the login is admin and the password field is blank.

However, if you have changed the default login and do not remember it you will need to press the reset button on the back to restore the router to it's factory default settings then you can use the login above.

How can I password my D-link router. Some is using my wireless API address

Enter the router configuration (192.168.1.1), user: admin, password: , and you must change on the Wifi configuration - you must set Security WPA2-PSK, under that you must set the password to connect on the wifi connection .
You must change password on the LAN / WAN from the Settings.
Apply all settings and restart router.

My internet connection via the router (d-link DI-524) have slowed down. how do i reset settings or put a password?

Maybe you have an open WiFi (no password wireless) and anyboby near can connect to your router and download files, this can slow down your Internet connection. To put a password to your wireless network, enter setup preferably by a wired connection to router, in your browser type the default IP address of it (http://192.168.0.1), the user is admin and its password must be left blank (default settings), at the Home tab go directly to Wireless option since you'll only change your WiFi from unsecure to secure, there you can choose the security type, WPA is recommended, after select it you can put the new Key (password) of your WiFi, and finally apply to get changes working, just remember that after this procedure, you'll have to enter the password in each new wireless connection to your router.

Does your router support the 5GHZ network?

My router supports dual-band at 2.4 and 5, and has separate SSIDs for each of them.

ie; network_1 = 2.4GHZ, network_2 = 5.0GHZ

So when I want the 5.0, I just connect to network_2

It's quite possible that though your wirelses adapter supports 5.0, that your router doesn't.
