I have a Samsung TV, Model #HCL4715W. The tv was given to me and it is horizontally pinched from the top and bottom and the blue convergence will not move when I try and adjust it. I have researched the problem and it sounds like I need to replace a part called the IC STK392-040. If this is so please let me know if there is anything else I need to check. I also have no clue on how to fix a tv, but I am very good at following directions and have fixed electronics before and know how things work. If you could email me a description on how to repair it or what I should do that would be great. Thank you
Yes thats what you need. Just go to radio shack get a de soldering Iron (the kind with the rubberbulb works fine) as wel as a fine pointed low wattage Iron. Also pick up a tube of heat sink compound while your there. Then lable your wires on the tv that you remove. Desolder both STK392-040 chips and solder in the new ones. Just ve careful not to bridge any of the pins with solder chck them with a magnifying glass. Dont forget to coat the back side of the new heat sinks with heat sink compound. You will need to adjust the convergence when youre finished. Just go slow it takes about an hour. I would also vheck the resistors right next to the ICs at times on or two of them get burnt when the ICs go out. Heres a link to where you can get the replacement ICs.
