Sounds as if you might have collected some lint in the pilot light area or even a cob web will also cause it. Check by using an air hose on it to blow it out, might just solve your problem.

    EMPIRE CORCHO UNVENTED GAS HEAT

I've got a 23 yr old 30DV3 whose pilot light works, and the thermostat & heating element seem to work, but not well. With the thermostat set at full hot, it just barely throws out any heat at all. ...

As I'm sure you already know, Empire Comforts Systems, no longer makes that model heater and hasn't for some years, now. I mentioned that, because if your unit needs parts, they may be almost impossible to get. In any event, there are a several things that may be causing the problem.

  • Low Gas Pressure - Burner is not receiving enough gas. Check for obstructions and have gas pressure at the unit checked.
  • Clogged burner or air intake (venturi valve) is partially clogged. Clean burner ports and venturi valve.
  • Gas line Shut Off Valve at heater not fully open. Check Gas line Shut Off Valve.
At 23 years old, you've gotten your money's worth out of this unit and it may be time to replace it. Empire makes several Direct Vent Wall Furnaces that are rated as High Efficiency Furnaces. In the long run, the money saved in fuel cost, would be worth installing a new one.

Hope this helps you solve the problem.

I have a wall mount 25000 btu empire. It keeps clicking on and off trying to light up. after about 4 or five tryes it starts, runes for a short time and shuts off. A funny noise comes from the burner area....

You're heading in the right direction. Especially, with a 10 year old heater that's never been cleaned.
Using a vacuum (a shop vac is great for this) that has a hose and brush attachment will do the job. Also, canned compressed air with a straw nozzle (like you clean your computer with) can be used to blow out the pilot tip and reach areas the vacuum can't.

After you've cleaned the heater, check for wear and damage to any of the internal parts. Especially, any wiring that may look burned or frayed. Also, be sure that the exhaust vent damper is working properly and the exhaust vent piping is free from obstructions. The clicking you heard may have been from the automatic safety damper switch.

If after 10 years you can't find your Owners Manual, here's a link to it. It will assist you any cleaning the unit and spot any problems.

Good luck and remember to clean the wall heater annually.

My empire wall furnace does not ignite. It has gas flowing because the pilot is light, i have changed the thermostat and wired it two different ways in case I reversed them. What is next? Could it be the...

It could be several things: Is the Control Knob turned from Pilot to ON? If that is the case, wait a few minutes after turning it to ON. That will allow the Thermopile to heat up sufficiently. Be sure the flame is touching the Thermopile. If everything looks correct turn up your Thermostat to higher than the ambient room temperature and see if the burners light. Remember to turn your Wall Thermostat down to the lowest temperature setting before turning the knob from Pilot to ON.

FYI - That Wall Furnace does not have a Thermocouple. It uses a Thermopile instead to generate millivolts of electricity to open the gas valve and maintain the pilot flame.

If it is the Thermopile, you can order it directly from Empire Comfort Systems, as well as download your Owners Manual at www.empirecomfort.com

Empire wall heater with wall vent pilot light

It sounds like the gas valve is dropping out. Make sure the system is venting the exhaust(no restrictions). Then make sure all your wiring connections in the unit are tight. In a millivolt system if all wiring connections aren't tight and clean your circuit will drop in millivolts and the gas valve will drop out. The gas valve requires a certain millivolt to stay open. I hope I was of some assistance!! Good luck!!

I have had the gas off for two years. I got the pilot light to work but when I turn the thermostat up to get some heat it got the heater going about three times in over twenty-five tries over a couple

you need to clean the burner assembly. Over time dust and settled inside the unit and it is possibly restricting the flow of gas through the burners. This is a dangerous situation. get it cleaned before you try again.
