Hello. Have you tried unplugging the power from the VCR for more than 24hrs? This may resolve the "safe-mode" feature going back to "default" and permit regular use after this amount of time elapses. That is kind of unusual for the stepping upon the remote to cause this?

After a storm, my RCA VCR said SAFE when you tried to play, FF, or do just about anything. First I unplugged it for a minute or two then plugged it back in. Didn't work. Still said SAFE. Took the advice from hyojo, only I just unplugged for 5 or so hours. Now it works fine. I guess the thing has a memory that lasts at least a few hours, so you have to unplug long enough for the memory to go away. DVDs and other digital media are great...but for reliability and universal playability...VHS is better for me. No format is perfect...but I've lost FAR more data on digital than I have with 40-plus years of analog recording. Instead of inventing a new DVD format every 16 months, why not perfect the ones that already exist? Mike Warden [email protected]

USING THE RMC10 REMOTE WITH AN UNLISTED DEVICE.

MANUAL CODE SEARCH:

Code Entry, then enter ANY VCR code in step 3 of Direct Code Entry. Then follow the
steps above for Code Search (or Brand Search, below). Note: If the device does not
have a CHANNEL UP button, use PLAY (VCR only) or POWER instead. Code Search
starts from the currently stored three digit number under that mode.
AUTO CODE SEARCH:
If your product does not respond after you have tried all the codes for your brand, or if
your brand is not listed, try searching for your code by following these steps.

release the CODE SEARCH button.

blinks off once.

5. Press the ON/OFF button down till the Red Indicator Light stays on.
6. The red led indicator will keep on flashing till your device (TV, VCR etc) turns off.
7. Press and release enter to Install the code.
CODE RETRIEVAL:
1. Manually turn on the device (TV, VCR etc) to be controlled.
2. Press and hold the CODE SEARCH button until the red Indicator stays on, then
release the CODE SEARCH.
3. Press the device control (TV, VCR etc) you want to control.

5. Follow the sequence of (0-9)and press once for each number button until the
Indicator flashes one time.

VCR stuck on menu screen

Thank you. I did fix the problem. Reviewed the instruction manual for the Samsung VCR and removed the SAFE reading on the VCR by just holding down the TV-VCR button on the RCA universal remote for several seconds which then released the frozen menu screen. From there I was able to reprogram the TV using the instructions and codes for the RCA universal remote. I still have to reprogram the VCR.
