Your "F"keys are multi function. Look for the one with a picture of a monitor. Press the FN key adt the appropriate F key at the same time. You are probably in remote monitor mode. The F key is usually F5 or F8.

I found a couple quickie things for you to try before you spend any money getting it checked.

    F5....Externel monitor switching

    F6....Screen blanking, to save power

    →.....Brightness Up

    ←.....Brightness Down

It's quite easy ho hit some of these combinations by accident.

I have a similar problem with my Sony notebook VGN-SZ430N. The problem started after I upgraded OS from Vista to Windows 7. At some point the screen worked fine, but after fixing other problems and loading drivers my screen went blank after one of the reboots. More exactly it shows the beginning of the boot but then the screen goes black before playing "Windows" tune. I can see shadows of correct images on the screen, and I can even operate the laptop by shining a flashlight onto the screen. I tried Fn-F5, Fn-F6 and Fn-everything else. Nothing worked. At some point I restored the registery to the previous configuration and the screen started working again, but after I updated required drivers for other devices, the problem reemerged. I can restart my computer in safe mode, and the screen is working fine, but subsequent normal boot makes the screen dark without backlight but with the image present.
I still don't know how to fix the problem

To me it sounds like: 1)Your LCD is broken. Or 2)Your LCD is not connected Or 3)You have disabled the display. Go into your graphics control panel (i don't know what graphics card/integrated graphics card you have...) and for the display option select :Laptop Display" or something like that. You usually can cycle through them using one of the Fn+F7(or F8...etc) combinations.

I have a lg flat screen monitor, the words are blurred

Is it just the fonts that are blurry, or everything? If fonts only, then this almost certainly suggests that running the ClearType tuner again would solve the problem. But this applies to all displays, so if one is good and the other is not, then this isn't it.

If everything is a little blurry, then this suggests one of two problems -- the first, you report trying, which is that the display adapter is set to a different resolution than the native resolution of the LCD monitor itself. Your display adapter should probably be able to drive 2 monitors (the built-in laptop monitor and the external monitor) at once. You should be able to set their resolutions separately.

Assuming Windows XP: Start > Control Panel > Display > Settings > at which point, you should see two monitors listed in a dropdown. Set them to their native resolutions there (using the slider bar, usually all the way to the right), and save.

If you do have the display resolutions set to their native resolutions for both monitors, then it's possible that your external monitor is messed up. A quick test would be to run the on-screen settings, usually from a button on the monitor itself. If what is displayed there is sharp and what is displayed from Windows is not, then this points to a problem with the display driver. If everything, even the on-screen display is blurry, then perhaps the monitor settings are messed up -- usually there's an option to restore to factory settings -- try that.

Shadow bands on laptop screen

The backlight behind the display may be starting to fail, hook a spare monitor to the video output usually on the back, if okay! the problem is in the the laptop display, Now if both show the same symptoms, it is the Video Graphics Card normally built into the motherboard.

Toshiba NB200-11M, display not working. Replaced screen and lead but no different. External monitor displays fine.

Is the display slightly visible? As in seeing shadows on the screen? You may need to replace the inverter board.

If you have replaced the LCM cable (the cable that connects the screen to the motherboard) and the screen and replacing the inverter board doesn't work then you have motherboard fault.

'Shadows' behind all texts and images on the screen

LCD Monitor Shadow Effect
This problem is best described as the LCD monitor "Shadow Effect".
The solution to this very simple. No software or hard ware changes required.
The cables that are connected to the LCD monitors are causing the problem. Its also called as electromagnetic noise or electrical noise.
Solution: Keep the two cables - (power cable and moitor display cable), that are connected to the LCD monitor as far away as possible with each other and also away from other electrical cables.
Thats it. Your shadow effect is fixed.
Thank you.

Laptop inspirion 6000 screen went black, can only see shadows of windows but, it works. Please help. Thanks London

London the only option is to replace the display or the back light itself. If money is tight you then can use an external display but that does limit your mobility. I had a D610 go out on me but it would work if hooked up to an external monitor. Once I replaced the display it was fine.

Shadows and Ghosts on the Screen

Plugged up display via the VGA cable to an HP dv6000 laptop; the Acer powered up and displayed fine ... however, noticed a faint waving motion in the picture, as if the screen was literally gel and began to wave, from top to bottom as it appeared. Best I can describe it ... any suggestions as to why? I only connected it to this HP to try it out, I ordered it from newegg and wanted to make sure pixels werent dead on arival. I will be getting an Aurora 7500 (Alienware): AMD X2 6000, Windows Vista Premium, 2GB RAM, GeForce 512 8800GT, SLI ready motherboard ... I heard good things of Acer and hoped this display would look great with my soon-to-come setup and im sure it will. However, just nervous it will do this on my Aurora. Any help or suggestions would be beyond appreciated!!
