I have lost the remote for my dvr 1600 and bought one off ebay.Trouble is it doesn't work. The battery is new etc, is there a code or anything I need to syncronise dvr with remote?

I had the same problem finding a remote for my dvr 1600.After several attempts buying them on ebay and them not working I finally found one that works. It is a different shape to the original grey one but works fine.
I bought it from 'genuine copies' on ebay and it wasn't a bad price. I told them what I needed and he said although a different shape and size this one would work and he was right. Have a go and it will sort out your problem too, I think all you need to do is copy name in search on ebay and it will take you to them.

I have an extra 1600 remote. I Frankensteined 2 dvrs together to make a working unit, and ended up with an extra remote.
My unit finallt over heated and died, so let me know where to send the remote. You can send me a cd of music or starbucks tiny little gift card for my trouble if you so desire.
contact cyberhome to find out who actually makes the unit (e.g. western digital, scientific atlanta). then use the codes for the actual manufacturer on your universal remote. that should do the trick.

Power Up the unit with NO Disc in the tray.
Press the Setup button on your remote control
Press the 1 button on your remote control
Press the 6 button on your remote control
Press the 9 button on your remote control
Press the 5 button on your remote control
Press the 1 button on your remote control
Press the 8 button on your remote control
Select the region code with the Number buttons or the Navigation Buttons on your remote control. 0 (Zero) for Multiregion.
Exit the menu
Press the Power Off button on your remote control
