407 is an overheating error. This is directly from HP:

The device should be powered off as soon as possible and immediately after that, the enclosure should be powered off, to avoid hardware failure.

"Check all fans and insure they are operating. Any failed fans should be replaced. Insure that there are drive blank cartridges in any empty drive bays in the enclosure. When the enclosure is a MSA1500 cs and only one array controller is inserted, ensure that there are cover plates installed in the empty array controller bay and the fibre bay in the chassis."

It also may be a faulty temperature sensor.

I have a Gen 8 Hp server with 5No 600GB HDD. The first two disk are mirrored, the other 5 are on raid 5. 1 of the 3 on raid 5 is flagging amber colour. How do I replace the HDD without losing Data?

Before replacing drives • Be sure that the array has a current, valid backup. • Confirm that the replacement drive is of the same type as the degraded drive (either SAS or SATA and either hard drive or solid state drive). • Use replacement drives that have a capacity equal to or larger than the capacity of the smallest drive in the array. The controller immediately fails drives that have insufficient capacity. In systems that use external data storage, be sure that the server is the first unit to be powered down and the last unit to be powered up. Taking this precaution ensures that the system does not, erroneously, mark the drives as failed when the server is powered up. Replacing drives The most common reason for replacing a drive is that it has failed. However, another reason is to gradually increase the storage capacity of the entire system. NOTE: In fault-tolerant configuration, hot-plug hard drives can be replaced when server is ON, but in case of a Non-hot-plug hard drive, it should be replaced when server is OFF. For systems that support hot-pluggable drives, if user replace a failed drive that belongs to a fault-tolerant configuration while the system power is on, all drive activity in the array pauses for 1 or 2 seconds while the new drive is initializing. When the drive is ready, data recovery to the replacement drive begins automatically. For systems that support non-hot-pluggable drives, if user replace a drive belonging to a fault-tolerant configuration while the system power is off, a POST message appears when the system is next powered up. This message prompts user to press the F1 key to start automatic data recovery. If user do not enable automatic data recovery, the logical volume remains in a ready-to-recover condition and the same POST message appears whenever the system is restarted. Automatic data recovery (rebuild) When user replace a drive in an array, the controller uses the fault-tolerance information on the remaining drives in the array to reconstruct the missing data (the data that was originally on the replaced drive) and then write the data to the replacement drive. This process is called automatic data recovery or rebuild. If fault tolerance is compromised, the controller cannot reconstruct the data, and the data is likely lost permanently. Time required for a rebuild The time required for a rebuild varies, depending on several factors: • The priority that the rebuild is given over normal I/O operations (user can change the priority setting by using HP SSA/ACU) • The amount of I/O activity during the rebuild operation • The average bandwidth capability (MBps) of the drives • The availability of drive cache • The brand, model, and age of the drives • The amount of unused capacity on the drives • For RAID 5 and RAID 6, the number of drives in the array • The strip size of the logical volume • Firmware versions of the Smart Array Controller and Hard Disk Drive • Presence of BBWC/FBWC CAUTION: Because data rebuild time may go upto the rate of 200GB/15 minutes, the system could be unprotected against drive failure for an extended period during data recovery or a drive capacity upgrade. When possible, perform rebuild operations only during periods of minimal system activity. When automatic data recovery has finished, the drive status LED changes from flashing green to solid green. If the drive status LED on the replacement drive changes to flashing or solid amber, the rebuild process has terminated abnormally. If an abnormal termination of a rebuild occurs, identify the cause and appropriate corrective steps. Abnormal termination of a rebuild If the activity LED on the replacement drive permanently ceases to be illuminated even while other drives in the array are active, the rebuild process has terminated abnormally. The following table indicates the three possible causes of abnormal termination of a rebuild. Cause 1: An uncorrectable read error has occurred. 1. Back up as much data as possible from the logical drive. CAUTION: Do not remove the drive that has the media error. Doing so causes the logical drive to fail. 2. Restore data from backup. Writing data to the location of the unreadable sector often eliminates the error. 3. Remove and reinsert the replacement drive. This action restarts the rebuild process. If the rebuild process still terminates abnormally: 1. Delete and recreate the logical drive. 2. Restore data from backup. Cause 2: The replacement drive has failed. Verify that the replacement drive is of the correct capacity and is a supported model. If these factors are not the cause of the problem, use a different drive as the replacement. Cause 3: Another drive in the array has failed. A drive that has recently failed can sometimes be made temporarily operational again by cycling the server power. 1. Power down the server. 2. Remove the replacement physical drive (the one undergoing a rebuild), and reinstall the drive that it is replacing. 3. Power up the server. If the newly failed drive seems to be operational again: 1. Back up any unsaved data. 2. Remove the drive that was originally to be replaced, and reinsert the replacement physical drive. The rebuild process automatically restarts. 3. When the rebuild process has finished, replace the newly failed drive. However, if the newly failed drive has not recovered: 1. Remove the drive that was originally to be replaced, and reinsert the replacement physical drive. 2. Replace the newly failed drive. 3. Restore data from backup. Hi: i have hp server ML 370 with array smart 642 controller and i replace hard drives to clean and check but when turn on the server get me many messages no scsi boot device found and next line scsi bios...

when did this beast last work.
see the manual yet>
there are many 370s ,which one, the full service tag answers that.
G , 2, on up. 9????????????
Proliant servers.
use google to find old manuals.
here is g2
https://www.manualshelf.com/manual/hp/hp-proliant-ml370-g2-server/compaq-proliant-ml370-g2-service-update.html

here is HP site covering retired products, I suspect your is..
https://www.hpe.com/h20195/v2/Library.aspx?doccompany=HPE&cc=us&lc=en&filter_status=rw#&doccompany-hpe&sortorder-csdisplayorder&teasers-off&searchword-Compaq%20ProLiant%20ML370&isRetired-false&isRHParentNode-false&titleCheck-true

HPE has the , 642 book here. (just a spec)

https://www.hpe.com/h20195/v2/GetDocument.aspx?docname=c04284123

if read that page it tells you the controller is only works with
SCSI
Compatibility with all Ultra320, Ultra3 and Ultra2 LVD family products.
it also tells you , it needs the HP utility tools to set it up properly

why would your clean disks boot? why say that?
what does this mean?
"and i replace hard drives to clean and check" surely you can elaborate the full story,
last run when?> what G number is it.
what drives , make and model. installed.
do you have the software setup seen on page 5 link just above.
quote
All Smart Array products share a common set of configuration, management and diagnostic tools,
including Array Configuration Utility, Array Diagnostic Utility (ADU), and Insight Manager.

this product is offically retired, by hp and only few books there.
but google finds many books, 15 years old now. (as old as...)
http://kmcs-service.austin.hp.com/km-ext/kmcsdirect/emr_na-c01127202-1.pdf

see this, it tells you what to do in 77 pages.

my guess is you get lost at Set the boot controller
(Chapter 4).
my guess, is that you have no HP sofware support kits.
just hardware there.... right?

next time tell the helper, full spec on 370 Gn G numer.
and full spec , on 642, version. and that you dont have the HP software kit to support this machine, it's no simple desktop, no at all.
at the least you get stuck here,

Create at least one logical drive, as described in Chapter 5.

Hi does anyone know how to configure the drive array on a compaq ml350?

This model comes with Smart Array 5302/32 Array Controller (Standard with Array Models only) when posting, the server will display the controler mentioned before Smart Array 5302 and an option (press f8) once you have entered this section called ORCA you will have a menu to create, view or delete Raid.
Make sure you have the hdds properly connected before starting so that all hdd are recognized
Good Luck

Merroy error 100.10.10

There isn't a known error of 100.10.10 on an HP2600n. The is an extremely rare 101.000 which is color plane registration but I'm guessing your not getting that.

I'm assuming your actually having one of the following:
10.0000, 10.0001, 10.0002, or 10.0003
10.1000, 10.1001, 10.1002, or 10.1003

These are supply errors (toner cartridge). The toner cartridges have a smart chip on them and if it's not reading correctly you can get one of the errors I mentioned above in the "10" errors. In that case look at the last number in the string to isolate it. "0"=Black, "1"'Cyan, "2" =Magenta, "3" = Yellow. Simply replace the identified cartridge.

We have seen a lot of refilled or self refilled cartridges that the supplier or user didn't put a new smart replacement chip on the cartridge, pulled the chip without replacing or actually put the wrong one on the cartridge. This would cause the "10" errors. In some rare cases a surge in power can knock out a chip on the cartridge.

Here's a photo of the chip on the black cartridge to help you locate it.

6aaf117.jpg
If you are getting a "10" error identify the last number to identify the color and replace the cartridge.

If you are ACTUALLY GETTING AN ERROR 100.10.10, contact HP as it is an undocumented error and likely only HP may be able to resolve it. I have even researched the error through Canon (they make they base machine for HP) and Canon has no record of this error either.

I hope this helps you. If so hit it with a FIXYA. Thanks.

Drive array problem

Hi Nick ,

As of now you can Select "F2" to accept data loss and re-enable logical drive. This Load OS Normally .
It seems that one of the HDD in the RAID 5 has failed , Did you notice any LED indications like red or amber on the HDDs ?? if so get that hdd replaced . Make sure the Failed HDD is replaced .
You can run the Array Diagnostic Utility from HP System tools to check the Failed Drives and also frimware version of the controller . If the frimware is not latest Update it from HP website. DL380 G4 should have Smart Array 6i controller .

Hope This was Helpful
cheers :)

I can´t use a serial ata disk in a proliant 350

I know ATA disks are cheaper , but they don't last as long or are less reliable.

I do not recommend mixing SCSI and ATA .

Use one or the other , not both.

Do not try , unless your server is non critical.
If it is non critical , why bother with server , a PC will do as well.

Thanks
David
