Question about Philips 55PW9363 55" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

2 Answers

Blue bulb emits light, but no picture.

I've had my 55PW9363 Phillips TV for about 3 years now, and for the past 6 months the picture has been horrible.

I decided today to take the front cover off and clean it, as the mirror and lens' all had a thick layer of dust on them.

After a good thorough cleaning, I think I discovered why the picture has never looked right.

There is no picture coming out of the blue tube. Just blue light.
The red is crystal clear, the green has some spotting under the lens, and the blue is just blue light that changes brightness along with the other tubes.
When I mess around with the focus on the blue bulb, I can see what appears to be shadows moving around, but again... no focused picture what so ever.

I'm fairly confident repairing the TV myself, but I know nothing of TVs. I don't know what parts affect what, what parts to ask for, etc.

Any help is greatly appreciated,

Wow, thanks for the quick turnaround!

Yes, the Green tube does look like there is something "growing" on the inside surface, but they are large spots.

The blue most be "congealed" as there is no picture left what so ever. Just blue light with some barely distinguished shadows.

If you could post a link to how to change the coolant that would be wonderful! I tried the first link above, but appears the thread is no longer there.

What is this coolant? Not automotive coolant I assume Ethelyn Glycol?

Instructions would be wonderful. I have the blue complete lens/bulb/ray gun assembly out of the TV at the moment.

I did find a PDF but I guess I can't make heads or tails of the CRT assmebly to see where the coolant is. Know of any diagrams?

Phillips have been known for the coolant to get contaminated especially in the blue CRT. it congeals and your picture will become hazy and out of focus. This is something you an do yourself. If youre careful. If you would like instructions on how to do this proceedure. Let me know.

A few tests to do:

In the user menu turn the Color level to zero. You should see a nice B&W picture, shades of gray only, no red grn or blu tinting.

Take the screen assembly off and look down into the blu tube (Tv On). Do you see any cloudy fluid or stuff growing on the inside surfaces of the blu tube?

thats a classic problem of bad fluid
Changing the coolant in the blue crt fixed my problem.

Phillips 47PFL422D/37 I've had the tv about 6 years with no trouble. But now the picture is to dark to watch it also pulses. I've tried to unplug it and plug it back in I get a picture for

First, average life on these sets is about 3 to 4 years at best and only boards are sold so even if you can pin point the board (no individual parts are sold) it is likely if will not get fixed and doing so is a bad investment as all the boards are now old.

Problem with sony 60" rear projection TV

I'm afraid, it is problem of optical block unit (light engine) that produce picture by 3 lcds inbuilt, the blue lcd and its related uv filters become defective and causing this kind of blue hue on screen.
Complete optical unit block (light engine) will be replaced by qualified tech to get tv fixed, light engine is costly part so ask an estimate before sending tv in.

I have the same issue, we've had to change our bulb three times in less than two years. now we have 61" expensive paper weight. Our current bulb is less than 6 months old. The TV is only 2 years old and like i said this is our third bulb.

the blue light blinks 4 times. you get sound. then a few minutes the the picture returns... then it goes out, and the cycle goes on.

A solution to this would be greatly appreciated.

Blue area near center of screen

Uh Oh! blue screen of death. Your light engine has warped a little from overheating and is distorting the picture.

My suggestion to you is to get on the phone with hitachi and start complaining, then keep complaining until they agree to pay for it. You may have to get the problem diagnosed by a pro before they agree to pay for it though.
