Dvd RW Burner stopped working after only having it for a year

Not to long ago, I tried to burn a CD and all of the sudden my computer tells me that I no longer have a CD Drive or that I need a CD Drive to Burn or Rip music onto my computer. I tried the Divx registry thing and that was a no go. only other programs I put on recently was Real player. I've only had my computer for about a year, so I don't think that the CD drive would **** out on me so quickly. Any help will be appreciated.

Check whether the CD/DVD drive has been detected/recognised in device manager. Also check the device status in device manager. Try to install the latest drivers for CD/DVD drive will solve your problem.

I have a Asus computer and my cd/dvd rw stop working. I can't watch dvd's or listen to any cd's I need to know what's up with my cd/dvd multi-recorder

First try a system restore back to the last date which you remember that it worked. If that doesnt help, you must find out what cd/dvd burning software is in your computer. It may have been corrupted. Oddly enough, you don't need drivers for the CD/DVD drives. They aren't even recognized unless you have a good non-microsoft burning program. Find out what burning software you have--download Belarc Advisor, a free program (Google it) which not only tells you everything in your computer, with model and serial numbers for hardware and all of your software (with their unique codes), but will also inform you if you are missing any needed Windows updates. Once you know what you have, if it came with the computer, you have to seek an upgrade at the computer manufacturer's website, as it may be a special program not related to the burning software purchased from the software manufacturer---go to their website for upgrades.

My Sony burns cds but doesn't burn dvds!!!

It may be a dual laser type burner and the dvd laser has faulted, you can try using a cd/dvd cleaner to clean the laser. Otherwise try:- Go to my computer>properties>hardware>device manager and look down the list for your cd/dvd drives and click the '+' sign then highlight your dvd drive and right click to delete. Restart the pc and windows will find the drive again automatically and install the drivers
