GE HotPoint HSS25 not cooling, but interior lights are on

My HSS25GFPJWW was making a clicking noise and seemed low on power (lights would dim when dispensing water), but now it looks like nothing is working except the interior lights. It's not cooling or making any noise at all.

I have the same exact problem. I cannot find my warranty information, but I bought it 2 years and 1 month ago. I cannot find any recalls listed for this model. I'd like to know how to get it done for free if possible.

I have the same problem, just called GE and they said my model HSS25GFPJWW is not on the list of defective mainboards. They are charging $84.95 for trip charge plus parts & labor. When asked if I can have someone local look at it and have them reimburse me, she said no if they are not contracted by GE.

Video on troubleshooting
http://gei.portals.streamos.com/cc/channel.php?emcid=1416&empid=4533&packageid=0000

if after you try the things on the video you may have to replace the motherboard. you can reset the frige by unplugin the power and pluging it back in. If you decide not to replace the motherboard as the unit will work fine untill you press the dispencer i reccomend unplugging the dispenser unit at the top of the freezer door so the frige will not accidently shut down just unplug the connector leading down the door. your frige will work fine without this connection just no water or ice at the door. If your frige is still under waranty (1year parts& labor) call them up and they will fix it.
The motherboard on this frige seems to be sensitive to surges and the transformer for the ice/water dispensencer goes bad. repacing the motherboard corrects this problem they cost about $75 to $90 on the appliance websites to install the new one it is very easy and you need to unplug your fridge and pull the metal cover off the back of the unit by removing four screws. the cables are all different size and can not be pluged in wrong the replacement board should come with instructions. to remove the board you may need needle nose pliers to push in the tabbs on the white board standoffs it should take about 10-15 minutes

I have solved this problem by replacing the back board if you have any questions I can help out

GE is aware of the problem and has an extended warranty on the mainboard. Just call their customer service for free service call and board replacement. The said it only covers the mainboard.

I got it fixed -- for free! It turns out that the motherboard on these units has a problem, and GE is aware of it. They have a list of models covered under a recall, so they paid for a repair guy to come replace it.

Clicking from the back, no water and not cooling or freezing.

Does the clicking noise happen every 30 seconds to 1 minute? If so, the klixon thermal current breaker could be cycling due to a current overload in the compressor circuit. A quick test to see if it is the klixon follows:
Open the refrigerator door and observe the interior light while the clicking is occuring. Observe two complete clicking cycles. Does the bulb dim or flicker real low as if someone flipped the switch off and back on real fast 1 time for each clicking noise you hear? If so, your problem is probably related to what I've outlined above regarding the compressor circuit and it's related components.

HotPoint fridge clicks and the fan doesn't turn

14 vac indicates a bad motherboard.Clicking could possibly be a bad start relay on the compressor.
Relays are inexpensive. I would replace the relay and hope for the best. Next step would be the motherboard that GE has had trouble with from day one

Hotpoint side by side Model HSS25GFPJWW

Your problems are the power board for sure. I have the same refrigerator and have read dozens of forums and advise pages looking for answers. If you let the problem countinue your fridge will completely stop cooling and all your food will be trash as has happened to me.

Symptoms: Fan in the back starts to make click or flopping sound as it tries to start up. Ice despenser doesent despense ice. water works sometimes. Eventually you notice your food defrosting partially and then refreezing as the defrost timer stops working which is controlled by the power board. Light dims and pulses when you hold the Ice despencer in. If you remove the light for the dispencer your water will work fine as long as the fan isnt making the clicking noise. Fan will eventually start up and run.

FYI GE customer Care is useless
