    Could you provide the model number of your motherboard please? You can find this by opening up your computer and looking for prominent numbers etched into the motherboard. I would check the HP site, but I do not know if you have changed out the motherboard. Better to get facts first.

Your best bet is to work from the existing processor model number, since manufacturers can change the motherboard in a given model of computer from one range of serial numbers to the next. They sometimes also offer the same model of computer with different processors and motherboards at different prices. So you can not tell much from the model number of the computer.

May I also advise you that changing a processor requires a little special procedures, equipment, and knowledge these days. It is not just unplug one and plug in the other any more. If you do not know what you are doing you could easily "fry" the new processor from excessive heat, due to incorrect installation. So look for some help if you are not sure of the details for replacing a processor chip. It's not hard, just that some things that may not be obvious are critical.

My HP Compaq d530 SFF has more than 1.7gb of RAM. It has 2.40gb processor but i can't install windows 7. i don't know why?

Probably not compatible with Win7. Check HP's web site for that model. You might find out what operating systems are supported.

Hp dc 7700 SFF, board is 965 chipset & i want 64-BIT processor

Yes, it the Intel 965 Express chipset will support processors that are based on the 64-bit technology.

This is to include the;
1) Intel G965 Expresschipset
2) Intel P965 Express chipset
3) Intel Q965 express chipset

Supporting Data;

1) Intel Support, and the main support page for the Intel 965 Express series of chipsets,

http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/CS-022768.htm

In the top list given, you can click on -
Associated Intel Processors,
to see if the processor you have is compatible.

2) This is a List of Intel Chipsets, on Wikipedia,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_intel_chipsets#Core_2_Chipsets

I have linked the page so that it comes up directly on the Core 2 chipsets.

Here looking down the left column, you will see the G965, P965, and Q965 Express chipset's listed.

You can scroll across to the right for each chipset listed, and see what processor types the chipset supports.

There isn't an Intel Core 2 processor made, that isn't a 64-bit processor.

CPU FAN SPEED IN HP Compaq d530 Small Form Factor Desktop PC

The fan/heat sink on these models get plugged with dust very easily, use an air compressor or can of air to blow the dust out of the heat sink and fan. In extreme cases the thermal paste gets dried out and needs to be re-applied to properly cool the processor.

Upgrade

In order to upgrade processors you will need a new mortherboard (if you want to use a core2duo). If your running a computer like that you will probably need a new case, memory, and an adequate power supply to run it and maybe another fan if your running a lot of stuff in there. You may need a new video card as well.

You could check at some used computer stores and see if you can upgrade your celeron processor to something faster. Compaqs are know to be trouble when you try to upgrade them.
