I need to secure my wireless connection network. I have a iMac computer an a Dlink WBR 1310. How do I configure a Password to prevent intruders from using my connection?

First you will need to find the local IP address of your router. It should look something like "192.168.0.1" You might be able to find it in either your router manual or on the bottom of the router itself.
Then make sure your computer is connected to the router via wireless or ethernet cable.
Next, open your browser and type in the IP address into the address bar. It should take you to a setup page that looks a lot like a website. Find the "wireless security" tab and select a security protocol. I recommend using either WPA or WPA2. Now you can set a password. Finally, there should be "save" button on the page. Click it, then wait for your router to reboot and your network is now secure.

Hi, I am trying to install D-Link router WBR-1310 but getting the error code 101 IP address not maching. What do you suggest?

Use the PING command to test the communication between the computer and the gateway.

Goto Start > Run and enter COMMAND.
From the Command Prompt, enter PING 192.168.0.1.
The gateway should reply.

Verify that the residential gateway is getting power. With the broadband modem connected to the WAN port on the gateway, you should have a soild WAN link light. You should use the same cable that connected the modem to the PC to connect the modem to the WAN port on the gateway. Any port on the gateway that has a computer connected to it should have the corresponding LAN link light lit. If you do not get the appropriate link lights, try using different cables.

onfigure browser/Internet Options
Step 1 Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel.

Step 2 Double-click the Internet Options icon.

Step 3 On the Security tab click Restore the default security level.

Step 4 Click the Connection tab and set the dial-up option to Never Dial a Connection.

Step 5 Click LAN Settings. Nothing should be checked. If anything is checked, uncheck it. Click OK.

Step 6 Click the Advanced tab and then click Restore these settings to their defaults.

Step 7 Click OK.

Step 1 Turn the Cable/DSL modem off.

Step 2 Turn the D-Link router off.

Step 3 Wait 60 seconds.

Step 4 Turn the cable/DSL modem back on and wait until all the lights are steady.

Step 5 Turn the D-Link router on.

Most routers and modems do not have an on/off switch. Simply unplug the power. Unplugging the power will not reset (reset back to default settings) the unit.

How can i secure network

By going to the security setting in the router and assigning a WAP/WEP "Key" this will then enable security. Please consult your manual for how to do this.

Unsecured network

  • You need to log into the router setup screen - you do this by connecting a PC to the Router via a cable connection and then using Internet Explorer (IE) you log into the router.
Using the default settings
  • Open a web browser and enter http://192.168.0.1 and press Enter. When the login window appears, set the user name to admin and leave the password box empty. Click OK to continue.
  • Goto the Wireless security section to set the security type and the password
Section 4 of the manual - see below deals with setting the wireless security This is the support site for that router http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=WBR-1310
Click on the Support Resources - that will take you to the manuals for different Version of that model - click on the model you have to get to the online manual

My WBR-1310 doesn't do wireless to my laptop.

theres a couple of version of this router http://www.dlink.com/products/default.aspx?pid=WBR-1310&tab=3 I'm using the manual from here http://www.dlink.com/products/?tab=3&pid=WBR-1310&rev=WBR-1310
on a working PC download and install this program http://www.xirrus.com/library/wifitools.php this will detect all the wireless signals being broadcast - see if the router is actually broadcasting - if it is detected on your PC then it may be that 1) the firewall is blocking access or 2) the security code is entered wrong - -log into the router and remove the wireless security and see if you can now detect
