Black Screen The camara was working fine a couple days ago, but now when i turn the camara on, the lcd screen is black. I can't see anything, hence I can't take pictures. Also, when i take a picture (although screen is black and i can;t actually see what i'm shooting), the picture review shows my past photos in perfect color except for my "test shot". Any suggestions? Thanx.

I had the same problem. I callled Sony they troubled shooted with me over the phone. Then they determined that it was a problemm with the CCD Imager and they are sending me a a shipping label to send the camera to be fixed for free!

my camera works fine and the lights are all on. But u just cant see the screen is full on black. So i just need to know what that might mean. One day it worked fine and today it just went black. what does this mean? well if u know just let me know . thank you

the display window is dark, it takes photos ok but can't see image when I go to shoot. Shows ok when I review them.

This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Sony should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following link for more info:

I have the same problem. Thanks T00nz for the information. I will soon received the mailing label from Sony. They charged $15 for shipping yet it is very reasonable and worth it compare to the cost for fixing it.

Defective LED back lights strips, or damaged EEPROM on main board. I will try a main board first, if you do nor have a TV LED strip tester.

if you upgraded it through an internet connection there's a possibility your windows OS will crash, better or try to reformat it with a windows installer dvd.

How to reset tv. Have sound but black screen

LCD's use a colorful crystal see through display which only visible when light is shining through it. if you have sound and no picture it's always a faulty PSU. Very easy to change out actually.

victorash02, Is screen black n blank, or just black? Do flashlight test! Yes it could be both! Most likely problem with unit's internal "switch-mode-power-supply"/"CCFL inverter supply". You or technician will need to investigate for probable cause of black screen of death. Need a little history of unit! Did it work just fine 2 weeks ago? How many "ON" hours of use on the unit? When was it made? Did you PROVE that PC not cause and works ok? Get back here with more info so we can help.

Cannot see what im shooting and on lcd screen,no picture jus black. It shows numbers timer everything else except picture. In play mode everything works fine.

I have 2 xelim camaras. One of which has a piece of some type of cover partially obstructing the view. This camara still displays the time and menus and older pictures. If I take pix now the picture is obscured. The other camara has no picture on the display but when I take a picture it turns out just fine. That camara will need disassembled and a connector hooked back up

Most screens on digital camaras are for aiming the camara and output (displaying the picture) therefore any problems with the screen do not translate to a picture.

This is new. I see that according to the illustration, there is no Optical Viewfinder- thus you need the the screen to compose the images - Is this correct? As this camera is new to you carefully read up the instruction manual - especially the set up routine. If after a day or so you are still in trouble - take it back to the store for replacement. Do not interfere with the camera.
